I'm glad you reposted this. I had saved it to my files but my computer crashed and I lost it. My dd is just getting her driving permit, so I'm glad I have this to show her.

Last May I was behind a girl who hit a car, went into a gully and almost rolled her car. She was texting. My daughter will be 16 in 2 1/2 way too short years, and I've told her numerous times her driving will be the thing I'm most strict about. Texting, talking on the phone, she's walking. And God help her if she drinks and drives.

And I don't think scaring them is a bad thing. I still remember the drug counselor who came to our high school and talked about how his brother died from drugs, after he brutally killed their Mother, and the girl he counseled who while on drugs popped ( on purpose ) one of her eyeballs out because they didn't belong in her head. He was graphic as heck.

My son saw this in drivers ed last year. We don't have texting for many reasons. Driving isn't one of them but won't have to worry when the time comes.

Is the use of cell phones whilst driving not illegal in the U.S.? Here it is and the fine is $145.00 and the police will stop you and give you a ticket.

The law varies in in certain municipalities and certain conditions...e.g.: In the state of Illinois, it is illiegal to talk on a hands-on cell phone in construction zones and it is illegal for persons 18 and under to use a hands-on cell phone while driving, however it is illegal to drive with a hands-on cell phone at any time in certain areas like the city of Chicago, but use of a hands free (bluetooth) cell phone is legal there.

I have never understood why anyone thinks they can text and drive safely. Simply requires too much time with eyes off the road. We didn't even talk much on phone, only if it rang in, no dialing out except speed dial. New car has bluetooth so now it's all hands free. I don't find that much different from listening to the radio and singing along. As for scaring kids it's about the only way to get through. Otherwise the are convinced it won't happen to them.

I see people talking and sometimes texting all the time here, despite it being illegal, Angela! And whenever the person in front of me is driving too slow, kind of wobbly or too close to the lines they are 95% of the time on a cell phone! In Vancouver (going about 120 km/hr, which is normal) I saw a guy in his work van texting! I got past him as fast as I could just in case. I hope this video scares some sense into the kids who see it. The UK makes some good intense PSAs. There's another graphic one about physical abuse with Keira Knightly that was pulled from the air, but really gets the point across.
