Does anyone have an older or used dryer? I am willing tobuy it and pay for shipping, we just can't afford a brand new one right now. I would soooooo appreciate anyone who would be willing to sell a used one to me....

I don't, but did you try Craigslist? Or even www.freecycle.org, where people post freebies to anyone who wants to pick them up? There's a section for Oregon.

Just a couple thoughts.

Noblenewf sold hers already. I do keep an eye on our Craigslist and do freecycle post and we haven't found a good one either. Ours works for now but would be nice to have a more powerful one after using our friends. What a difference!

YorkvilleNewfie, you have mentioned your love for this Sears "thing", as you affectionately call it, but it is not the same as a K-9 III dryer. I am not sure if you have tried them side by side but this is the breakdown...

K-9 III Dryer - 19 amps
Blower - 12 amps

K-9 III - 62,000 FPM
Blower - 19,888 FPM

K-9 III - 2098 Watts
Blower - 331 Watts

K-9 III - 245 CFM
Blower - 183 CFM

K-9 III - 10 Ft hose
Blower - 7 Ft hose

K-9 III - 2 yr warranty
Blower - 1 year

A blower may be a quick alternative to a dryer, but is not the same thing. I use my blower to blow dog hair and leaves out of my garage.

Lynn, great breakdown...obviously I'm not familiar with that stuff. But what I do know is that it takes about 20 minutes to completely dry my girl with this and that's round-abouts the same amount of time it takes her groomer to do the same with her commercial dryer, hence my comment. Not a knock on pro/K9 dryers by any means, just my observation/experience and IMO a good alternative for those with a concern for cost :)

thanks guys for your input. The blower looks pretty cool especially when I have 4 wet newf after a swim in the river. And the cost does not hurt.

Soundbay, thank for putting up that info. Can you tell me what the diff would be if they both dry? It blows air right? I'm just wondering... Thanks again.

Not Soundbay, but I can tell you this much:
Time
Air Velocity
Adjustability

Those three things are the first that come to mind for me. Keep in mind I have a shop vac blower, I have a Double K 2000AD, I have a K9-II, and a K9-III..... you definitely can tell a difference. I'm just trying to figure out how to run all mine at the same time and cut down on drying time. LOL!!

LOL mike.. Do you want to sell me ONE of those dryers?
:D:D I actually use each one of them for specific things.

We take the Double K or the K9-II to shows, depends on what the show site will be like as far as available electricity. Usually can only run one motor on the K9-II at small shows, so using the Double K works just as well.
My shop vac really gets used mainly as a vac, since it doesn't put out the airflow volume of the dryers, but I have found you can vaccuum the dogs with it from time to time and get some loose hair off....and it helps keep the area tidy from all the loose hair that accumulates from using dryers. :)
The K9-III (recent acquisition) is reserved for heavy duty use (post water training bath or pre-show bath) where we need some serious drying action. Keep in mind both our boys have pretty thick coats, and even the K9-II with both motors isn't fast enough to suit me, which is why I added the beast of dryers. :D

You can certainly make do with the shop vac for a bit, and it is worlds better than traditional hand dryers, but long term, you'll still want to consider a dedicated dryer. There is another one, which I don't own but have used, made by Laube that is sort of a middle of the road dryer that isn't super pricey and you could potentially consider as well. Save you pennies, and get what you are most comfortable with.... but trust me, once you do take the plunge, so to speak, you'll be using the blower vac the same way I do. :)

Air flow is measured in CFM (cubic feet/minute) so you can compare the two units as to how much air they will blow. They both blow air, but if you look at the chart, you will see there is little comparison in a dryer like the K-9 III and the shop vac (Sears blower vac).
If you have 4 wet newfs, you should have a dryer.
