I just don't understand

Another one for the book!

A lady just called to make a grooming appointment for her dog a golden poodle mix. She said she just had her dog groomed and was not taking the dog back. I asked her why and she said she got the exact groom she asked for but she didn't like it so she was not going to go back. She said the groomer should have known it didn't look right. She said the head was too short on top but she asked for it to be short no more than 1/2 inch long. Then she said her dog is an outside farm dog groomed twice a year, she never combs the dog but it is never matted. Yea right. I told her I'd groom the dog but it would have to be every 8 -10 weeks. So she made a appointment. I wonder what the future holds?

BTW when I asked her the breed she said a goldendoodle. I repeated a golden poodle mix. She said again goldendoodle and I said again golden poodle mix. Which IMO is exactly what it is a MIX.

I am so stressed. I cannot wait to workout this evening to get rid of all the stress from the strange people I've had today.

So you ask what else? A lady called to board her dog this weekend. She said all her vaccines were up to date. They were last given 6/1/09. I couldn't get it through her head the dog was not up to date. I finally just said when she got vaccines to call me that I couldn't keep the dog this weekend.

Going to work off some stress and sweat a bit!!!:goofy:

You will have to write a book.
I've been saying that for years!!! I'm sure if people could read it before they buy a hairy dog, they would get a reality check and a darn good bit of education.

But I'd also bet that a lot of people would relate to some character in that book, swear up and down it was themselves, and get all pissy about it. Of course, if that's what it takes to wake'em up...

What's a "farm dog"? Like a dog that lives outside on a farm? Does he have a purpose out there, like herding something? I know this is a really stupid question, I just don't get it.

Basically a farm dog is a family pet who lives outside and the people just happen to live on a farm. The dog may or may not have access to the barn or other out buildings. They are not in the house.

Some farm dogs are actually working dogs like guardian dogs for livestock. My daughter raises goats and they have a "goat" dog. He lives with and guards the goats year round, goats in pasture, dog in pasture, goats in barn, dog is in barn. They have real problems with coyotes and the dog is a necessity to keep live goats. Of course it isn't a designer dog or one that has a coat that mats up!

Off topic, but your daughter could also look into getting a donkey - they're fantastic guard 'dogs'. My family has a donkey in with each herd of sheep - s/he goes in and out with the sheep and keeps away wolves and coyotes. Plus, most of the donkeys I've ever met have been really affectionate and giant cuddle-bugs :)

And I've heard of that-like a Great Pyr, who was bred to do that. Not a Golden Doodle ( mutt ).

Donkeys work great to protect flocks.

Although I am not a fan of the "doodle" craze it is possible that one or two of them could eventually get a breed standard and become recognized breeds. Our beloved Newf breed started out as "Mutts" at one time.

I LOVE donkeys! They get a bad rap too often, but daughter and family aren't into equines at all. The good things is that the goat dog gets as much attention from the kids as the goats (and they get a lot). But I can't imagine using something long haired as a farm dog!
