Having trouble with Boog howling at night, keeping the family up, esp my oldest son, who is the closest to him in proximity. Any suggestions?

Where is he sleeping? Most newfs do not like to be left alone. He's probably lonely.

I had a Newf-Husky cross that was a world-class howler. The town I live in has a volunteer fire dept that uses a siren that howls. She'd get rilled up by it and have every dog in the neighborood joining in, funny in the daytime, not so much at 3 am.

Our dogs howl every morning at about 7 am. Our Golden, Amos starts is...and they all pitch in. It lasts about a minute, then they all calm down and go back to sleep.

Apparently they're hearing something we're not.

Is it approximately the same time every night? Do you live within 5 miles of a fire dept? Perhaps he's hearing something in the distance that he can only hear at night (because everything else is so quiet) - or something that only happens at night.

Get your son a white noise machine - $20 at Target. LOL :)

Cooper only howls in his sleep, but he does a whine that turns into a WOOF every morning to get us to come down (he won't do stairs, bedrooms are all up).

Good luck!

Mine howl at night at the coyotes in the distance. The have pet doors, and they go out and raise a ruckus. If i leave a radio playing, they don't notice the noise of the coyotes, and they don't howl.

Moan and Moos is a better description of the noise than howl. When I first heard him, I likened it to Sasquatch. And, yes, often when he does it, I hear sirens in the distance. We're like a mile off of a 4 lane highway, and up the hill from it. You can hear everything in the valley bouncing off the sides of the hills.

I have never had a Howler. Katy likes to talk and so does Tess. But ours are free to roam the house at night/day and usually all in the bedroom with us
