The best way to test for ovulation is to do have your vet run a progesterone blood test. You should start a few days after she comes into season to see what she is at, then test every few days thereafter.

Be prepared to spend some major bucks on progesterone testing if your girl is like my Jill. She's not fertile until day 20!

she is (or was ) just under a 2 - so Im guessing the vet is measuring in ng not nmol - does anyone have a chart to compare ?
Sun Valley - what number do you usually go by for ovulation?

It's a not specif number you look for, but how high the numbers are from the previous test. I then wait 2 days and breed. We also only do AI's in the States.

As an example...I have 2 litters now and their Mother's numbers were 18 and 19 and I bred them 2 days later. Their numbers before were both in the high 3's .One had a litter of 8 and the other had a litter of 5.

Do you restrict your girls at all after mating / during pregnancy ? ie no stairs ( I know stairs are not recomended for Newfs any how ) limited excitement etc.
I didnt realise the CHV wasnt available in the States - you guys usually have stuff on offer before us so I just presumed!

I pretty much keep my girls on their regular schedule after breeding and don't do anything different. I don't let them jump on or off the grooming table when they have big belly's obviously, and I don't start anything new with their diet until week 6 ...:)
