Hot spots

Crycket keeps getting hot spots on her back that get all yellow crusty. Anyone have a better option than shaving and using Gentizol spray?

Are they in the same place? Is she wet back there a lot?

Elvis had a hot spot back in the fall under his ear. We cut away the fur and used a listerine/gold bond combo that cleared it up pretty quickly.

Make sure she's bone dry any time she gets wet. Use of a high velocity dryer works for this. You can also put some gold bond powder on it to dry it up. If they get very bad, you might need antibiotics. There are tons of sprays to use on it too. JUST DON'T USE TEA TREE OIL, it is toxic for dogs and listed on the pet poison website as such.

Yellow crusty could be staph. You'll need antibiotics for that. Could be an allergy that's causing this..

Thanks for all the advice. Think we might have to get a dryer as it is pretty wet here and she might not really dry out at times.

A spray that I just came across that seems to stop the going into an infection is Douxo Chlorhexidine Micro-Emulsion instead of using Gentocin. My boys like to lay outside in the dewy wet grass morning and night when it's cool which tended them to hot spots from staying wet. Vet gave me some to try which took care of it. Found it on amazon.

K9III dryer. Make sure wherever you plug it in is wired for 20amp.

Zymox is beyond miraculous for ears.

For skin, dry hair, keep dry and fluffed, part and comb out crusties.

Have tried all kinds of sprays and lotions. Also the Gold Bond, but once Orka got loopy and strange, called Poison Control, found out Gold Bond is toxic if they lick it.

Best thing I've found for hot spots is the inflatable donut ring to put around neck to prevent fussing licking and worrying the hot spot.

Orka swim in rivers / lakes almost every day and night, drips dry. The hot spots come with allergies and not from water in his case. He has environmental allergies -- molds, pollen, grasses -- which of course blanket PacNW. Comb every day, use dryer, use donut if he's licking, taught "Leave that alone."

The hot spots dry and heal. I do watch to make sure they don't spread or get hot and red or turn into infections.

Yes, knew that. That's why I won't use it anymore. Had more than one try to lick it off which means then trying to keep them away by cone. Went to using other stuff to where would not have to induce vomiting for poison and vet trip.

Well after shaving her there were two spots about the size of a quarter each hiding under her fur. Anitbiotics and Gentizol for them. Gonna look into the K9 dryer. She loves to go out in the rain.

Also be sure and check for internal and external parasites. If a recent fecal check has not been done, it wouldn't hurt, especially if your not keeping up with flea treatments or heartworm meds depending on where you live.
