Hi from MN, home to the miracle newf!

My breeder told me that being the runt doesn't necessarily mean he won't grow as big as brothers and sisters of same litter. Often, they'll grow to be the biggest; so, it really isn't a "sign" of a smaller dog, in the end. At least, that was my understanding...

Welcome from TX! I don't have any advice. Sounds like your little guy has been through a lot already. It's wonderful that he's the one that caught your eye & you'll be taking him home. Congratulations on your little bear!

First, Welcome to NN. You are going to learn a ton of useful info here.
Now let me introduce you to Zeke:
Zeke is the runt of his litter. He was bottle fed for the first 5 days, was picked on by his litter mates, and had a hernia as well. The breeder said it was touch and go for the first week and she gave him extra time alone with his mom for feedings. We brought him home at 10 weeks, he was 15 pounds then, and the rest were all in the 20 to 22 pound range. We fed him a low protein diet so he would grow slow and strong. Today, Zeke is the largest in his litter and is also bigger than his parents. We did go through a lot of health issues the first year, but he is doing wonderfully now. We had ex-rays done of his hips, elbows and knees last month to see how he is growing.....so far they are excellent.
Zeke at 4 weeks:

And Zeke yesterday at the dog park:

That's his sister Abbey behind him. She is 9 weeks older and is standard size for a female Newf, 26 inches.
Zeke has an amazing personality and is always by my side.
We can't wait to hear all about Gilly. And don't forget, We go a little crazy when we don't get to see pictures, So you simply must have a camera with you at all times! :kgo_057:

WELCOME!!! I'm glad Abbey chimed in about Zeke. He's such a handsome "runt"!!! (doesn't quite fit anymore)

My newfie baby comes home in 12 days so we'll be going through alot of the puppy stuff together as will Sherry! So much fun!

Zeke is 14.5 months old. Both of his eyes went cherry. One was tacked and stayed, the other one required removal of the gland because after 3 operations and 2 proceedures it just wouldn't stay tacked. We also wondered about muscular dystrophy because of the way he walked, always triping and falling down. That's why we had the x-rays done, to make sure there were no underlying cause. He also had his Hernia repaired during the first eye surgery.
Here are a couple of threads about Zeke:

ShadieLady,

Hudson is east of the Twin Cities and just across the St Croix river which is the border between MN & WI. New Richmond is about 15 miles from us. You've may have driven through Hudson going to New Richmond.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being owned by a Newfie. :dance01:

Thanks for the one picture of little Gil. You are going to have so much fun with him and this is the place to be for advice and support. But, it's an ornery bunch who might not be pleased w/o hundreds of pictures - soon!

Gitchegumee-
Am I talking to Julie or Steve? I HAVE been in Hudson! Haha. Would you ever be interested in organizing a little play date for the pups? Once Gil is a bit older that is! :)
This is Steve, I am usually the one posting on NN. I'm sure Gitche would love to play with another Newfie (we have not run into any Newfies outside of the NorthStar Club activities). Gitche goes to doggie daycare three days a week, but she is the only Newfie. Her best friends there are the Great Danes and a Lab that loves to play tug.

Steve-
Whats the NorthstarClub? Sounds fun! I've not seen many Newfs around MN, either.

NewfLove-
Thanks for the warm welcome, I can not wait to overload everyone with pictures!
