Help needed for Newf lesson please!

I am a teacher in Oregon and every year the 4th graders study Lewis & Clark. I am called on as 'Newf expert' to teach the kids about the breed and why Seaman was a big help to them on the expedition, which I love doing. I show them pictures of Oliver, talk about the characteristics of the breed and show them a short video from the Animal Planet Dogs 101 series. I would also love to show them a video of them doing their 'jobs' such as water rescue, carting, therapy work etc. but I am having a hard time finding videos that would be appropriate to use. Because it is a school, I can not access Youtube which has many good videos. Does anyone know of any other video resources I can check out or any other ideas of things I should cover? Thanks for all your help in advance!

Power point makes an amazing presentation if you're familiar with it....you can insert video and pics and personalize it.....great tool.....

What Angela said. It's a shame you can't access youtube because there is a wonderful video of Newfs carting at a home improvement store at Christmas time.

I'm sure the kids will always remember this lesson, I'm sure it's very cool-does he get to come into school?

Some of the Regional Clubs have videos and slide shows on their websites for water and draft tests, Christmas tree pulls, etc., that are not published on Youtube. There is a good chance they wouldn't object to you using some for educational presentations. Perhaps you could email them for permission.

Thank you for your ideas! I'm still petitioning to get permission to bring the dog to school for the lesson. Our district has a 'no class pets that have fur' rule but there are exceptions for special presentations so I'm hoping so. If so, I'll post pictures. I've done this presentation for a few years and the kids love it. I can't imagine how much they would enjoy it if Oliver could be there in person. The kids would love it and so would Oliver. I tried the website recommended with the Italian water rescue dogs and there are some amazing photographs I could use. The video however is from youtube. I'll check with some regional clubs from outside my area too. I hope I can find something great that represents the breed well!

Wow. We are in the Beaverton School District and Sunshine went to school all through elementary school. We did a picture book and kids asked questions and petted Sunny. In 4th grade, I showed pictures of Newfs doing what they do, talked about the Lewis & Clark connection, answered the kids questions, etc. By 5th grade, I did a short talk with pics & everyone had to pose for an individual picture and tell me the story of Seaman. Too cute. Sunshine loved it and she has a class picture for each grade too

I hope Oliver gets to go! Sunny loved the 4th grade class!

You are welcome to use these, if you like. Take them and put them on a DVD if you can't get to Fototime from the school:
