Help Get Bilbo Back on the Beach

Hi everybody. We need as much help as we can get. I know most of you are american or canadian, But to all the people who live in england and people who have emigrated can we please sign the petition.

Bilbo is a seven-year-old Newfoundland dog, who has been credited with helping save three lives at Sennen Cove in Cornwall working alongside RNLI Lifeguards. Bilbo is banned from Sennen Beach from 1st May to 30th September between 8am & 7pm due to restrictions set up by Penwith District Council. He had previously been allowed on the beach during the period of the ban by travelling on the back of a quad bike. This option is no longer available due to Health & Safety reasons.

Because Bilbo has had no formal Lifeguard training he cannot be classed as a working dog and therefore cannot go on the beach due to the wording of the dog beach ban. There is no formal Lifeguard training for dogs, although Bilbo has had training from his owner who is a trained Lifeguard, and Bilbo has shown his natural ability as a rescue dog.

We are petitioning for Bilbo to be given official working dog status so he can to continue working on the beach or legislation, if none already exists, to allow him to do so.

Please Help if you can

Hannah

Alas, it sounds like the "powers that be" have cut off their nose to spite their face. Protecting the health, while allowing the well-being to be at risk? Let the dog do its job (and give it the certifications, if that's what it takes to get him back).

I always give the English credit for being much smarter than Americans about dogs. This is just a shame, especially when it's Bilbao's heritage and natural instinct. I think I have seen news reports in the US about Newfys being part of the life guard teams in Italy and France. Can you find some info to bolster your position based on that?

I have a couple of British people who are part of my SARDS research group www.sardsresearch.org . I will send them info to support you.
