Happy 11 Year 10 Months Birthday Snuffles

Well since it is after midnight and I am awake, I figured I would do the monthly birthday update. Snuffles is getting weaker in the rear end, but can still get up on his own. Just found out yesterday his half brother/cousin Apache who is about a month and a half younger can't really anymore. I am going to see if we can visit Wednesday or after this week. I bet it will be the last.

About mid January, Snuffles had a Vet Exam with blood work and urine analysis. The blood work wasn't great. We had two readings that were low concerning his red blood cells. Also his T4 thyroid was below their measurement range. Snuffles also had a high Absolute Eosinophils a white blood cell thing that can be caused by allergies or mast cells (cancer). Snuffles had also lost several patches of fur with a crusty scab in his belly and rear area. I guess I did not realize how bad it was till way to late. Bad Daddy! That might be the Eosinophils problem. We did start a very low dose of thyroid med too again but even a lower dose. The Vet wanted to retest the red blood cell things. They were normal about 2 weeks from the first time. Also, we did a Free T4 test. That was right in the middle of the normal range. Last year it was low normal. So maybe he just needs that small kick of the low dose of thyroid meds. Hair is growing back too. Other wise being a bit more arthritic and losing muscle mass in his back legs, Snuffles I guess is doing OK considering the ruptured ACL from September 2014. Snuffles is still getting his monthly acupuncture and chiropractic care, and Sunday he did get a massage for the first time in months. The lady who does the massage had major health problems, but she was in town, and so she did him.

Here are 3 pictures from yesterday AM. Snuffles was wanting to play. I guess he was feeling pretty good. It had been a while. I always make him sit or lay now with the bad knee. I gave him his Tanky toy named after his Basset Hound friend Tank. He decided to try to kill Tanky..like I am sure he wanted to do to the real Tank when he was a puppy :) Anyway that is about it for now.

Love it. He is one handsome boy. Winston is now 11 years and 7 months and very weak in the back end but still a happy boy. Give Snuffles a big hug from me.

Aw, still such a handsome dude! Love that last pic. Glad he's feeling a little sassier on new meds. Sorry to hear about Apache's troubles too.

My Vet told us to try to keep Ruby on the thin side of normal for as long as possible. Less strain on her rear end would keep her with us longer, Good luck and best wishes, Snuffles.
