Grooming Table

Does anyone have suggestions for a grooming table? Maddie's always loved getting brushed, but Murphy is a struggle. He's all over the place and won't sit still. I thought if I had him on a table I could have better control. I'll also need something with stairs or a ramp so he can get up on the table. I saw the groomer at Newfiepaloozaqa lift his back end up after his front feet were on the table, but I'm sure I won't be able to do that.

I have a 48" Champagne table and when I put my older girls up, I always use a folding PetStep ramp on the end of the table.

When lifting a dog onto the table, our breeder showed me a nice little trick. Instead of putting the front legs up on the end of the table and lifting, have them get up on the side of the table instead. I never thought this would make a difference, but it does! And it is much easier for you and the dog.

I try to use the ramp for all of my dogs, especially when getting down. If I am at a show, usually there is not enough room for a ramp, so I lift them down and let gravity assist me. One arm under/around front of shoulders, the other arm under belly by back legs. I never let them jump off; concerned about potential injury to elbows and shoulders.

Cannot give you any comments about the Groomright tables; I have never used them. I hear they are pretty nice.

My Champagne table is getting old and I've been thinking about replacing it. I've been looking at getting Groomright. Height is adjustable from 20" which makes it easier to jump up on table. I use the side of table technique except for the one's who I know will jump on the table.

I have a Champagne and love it. I want to add a 48" one. The shorter one is easy to schlep to shows.

I've only seen the GroomRight tables from afar. I recently heard that the surface is very sharp and can cut human knuckles and possibly dog paws. They'll be on sale at the National which will make it easy to check them out. They are pretty pricey ...

Ginny, I can confirm that the GroomRight table is rough. I raked my poor knuckles across the surface and tore skin off of a couple. It smarted quite nicely. The Champagne table is definitely more smooth yet still provides enough non skid surface that mine don't slip. I love it!

We have a champagne 48 inch and love it! I don't think it's too heavy and I loaded and unloaded it at a show this weekend. Mojo fits well on it and if we have a break he can lay down on it as well and still fit..sort of. Wasn't too pricey either.

The GroomRight reminds me of the Sett-R-Rite that went out of business.

Thanks everbody. I like the Champagne table, and it's affordable. I LOVE the steps. What a great idea. I'm going to try and put those together this weekend. That should be interesting !
I've never used a grooming table before, so do you think I can just let Murphy stand on the table (supervised) or do you use the pole with the noose to keep them on the table?

Please don't do it without a arm. If he does try to get off because he doesn't like it he can hurt himself. Don't leave him even if he does have a arm because he can choke himself. Would hat to see the big boy get hurt. We have the bathing station outside that defiantly strong enough to hold him.
Morgan would be very upset if anything happened to her buddy boy!!!

I like to use the quick release clip to attach the noose to the arm, so if the dog should jump off the table, he won't choke himself.

I've had zero luck with these safety snaps. Jill quickly learned to jerk her head and send the thing flying. I finally retired it when she launched a portion of the clip inside a dog's crate at a show. Needless to say, the owner wasn't thrilled with the incoming shrapnel!:ah:

Fun to read how even show Newfs learn to express themselves about grooming :D

I get a lot more done when I leash Orka to a pole on the gym platforms across the street. Bookmarking this thread for all the widget tips.

I have a purple Groomright and love it! I nor the dogs have been scratched at all. I love that you can wash on it and no one has ever slipped...
