I have a 3 year old neutered brown male. I just got him a few months ago. I'm feeding him Fromm grain free. Is there a better chance that he will gain weight with the grain free? Thank you!
Sorry about the delay in my reply! I have had him for about 6 months, he was in a bad situation. He weighed 85lbs. when I got him and he weighs i05 now. He gets 3 walks a day and he gets to run around off leash a few times a day also. I put him in the Fromm grain freenjust because I thought it would be the healthiest thing I could give him short of a raw diet, which would be too expensive for me. He gets 2 level cups in the morning and the same in the evening. I also give him raw, organic fruits and veggies. I don't want him to gain any more weight, and I would actually like him to lose a little. Would it be better to switch to Fromm with grain? Thanks!
Check the bag to see how many calories per cup the new food has compared to your old food. That should give you a start point. We switched once and didn't notice the new had about 20% more calories per cup. The dogs put on some weight before we caught it. Green beans are excellent fillers as are apples.
I think grain free is a better way to go. If he needs to gain weight you can always add fillers to his food. Give more treats, etc. just be sure he doesn't get over weight. We also do a little raw feeding on the side with beef spare ribs but ours is allergic to chicken so not many choices in the dog food world without Chicken. Have fun with the new pup!
