Gracie's latest adventure

Remember first of all that this is one of Penny's pups, hope's sister, and an irish spot to boot...I think there's "something" in that IS gene...Well, today I was at work, car was in the shop, cleaning lady cleaning my house...left cigarettes on the counter...Gracie, the olympic counter-surfer, ate the entire pack, foil and all...so cleaning lady ran her to the vets when she (gracie) spent the afternoon being divested of her stomach contents...apparently quite successfully...staff was debating what kind of cigarettes they were...all is well now. A friend took me over to get her...and she plopped her 65 pounds in my lap for the ride home. yuck, she is the most determined countersurfer I've ever known. She sure scared the dickens out of me.

She is a determined little counter surfer!! Glad all is well now! You wouldn't have thought they would have tasted good at all!! The mysteries of a Newf puppy strike again! Of course, in my life, these crisises always happen when I don't have a car - Murphy's Law I guess!

the cleaning lady was of course upset, saying she'd thought she put them out of her reach...Maybe Lorie will stop smoking! The vet said...haven't you talked to Gracie about not smoking! said nope, just talked about not drinking and driving...and gave her the sex lecture.

Do you think she will ACTUALLY listen to those lectures?
cause i sure as heck didnt as a kid!

glad all is well! was hoping to hear an update ;)
relax now.
also my sister put scat mats on her counters to teach her most horrible counter surfer white gsd boy to stay off.
it worked very well that than she put the mat on the floor by the counter, than took it away all together.
so you might want to give that a whirl.

well, I doubt that she learned a thing from that experience! I guess I'll have to try the scat mats or something similar. My daughter said that when kids do that, they pump their stomachs and they learn NEVER to do that. So this morning I put a brand new very nice orthopedic crate pad in her crate...Within 15 minutes she had eaten a hole in it and ripped out the foam...I wonder if I can get my money back on that one. So back to the old crate pad or big towels in the crate. She has been flipping the old pad up and sleeping under it...maybe she wants to sleep on the cold crate tray? Anyone else with this problem?

it could be that, she might not like the fluffy stuff cause it holds warmth, maybe try it withought for a while.
i usually dont allow anything in the crate till they are ready for it, normally they get a rug or blankee around a year of age.
tasha was three! LOL

Great idea with the scat mats for the counter surfing. I may have to put one ontop of the garbage can too, LOL.........

Glad Gracie is doing alright now. I'd try the talk about no smoking anyway, they say to alwasy have the talk, whether they're listening or not. ;)

I always told my kids not to drink and drive, not to expect me to bail them out of jail, and not to bring home any social diseases...never had the smoking talk...guess I'll have to update my lectures. Sar, I've always used a little something in the crates...actually the thick orthopedic pads...thinking it would be easier on their elbows...you don't use anything when they're pups? guess it's cooler that way. No elbow calluses...maybe since they're young with less weight they don't need that cushioning. Did you even put a towel in there? I've got a friend whose siberian husky ate a hole in the crate tray...and then in the carpet under the crate!

i was wondering if you were leading a double life! hahahahha
no nothing for pups due to destructive nature at this age, instead a marrow bone filled with something frozen works better to keep their teeth occupied in a good way.
tasha was given stuff by former owner and kept destructive nature, i had her for three? years now, and not till this year would she leave the rug down on the crappy plastic pan GRRRRRRRRRRR
that is the WORST design they even made, it was craked in two days, so a nice thick rug on it helps tremendously, but she kept pulling it back, in doing so she chewed the corner of it.

Okay everyone what is a scat mat and where do I get one? Beau won't leave our trash can alone. I got one that has a lid on it but now he's learned to just use his nose to lift it up! Either that or he knocks it over.

scat mats can be obtained from foster and smith I think as well as other pet supply places, maybe even petsmart...I don't really know how they work though...Mild electrical shock...noise...whatever. I've never had to use one...ok, years ago I could have used one but they weren't available then.

We used a trashcan with locking lid, none could get in it. Itw as great. If only I could find where we bought it since the trashmen broke it at the old house.

trashcans are behind closed doors, except in the bathroom (on top of toilet tank) and bedroom's (on top of dressers)...attractive huh? Whoever said my house wasn't classy?

I used Scat mats to keep the cats from wrestling on the dining room table when we finally bought a new dining room set. A friend of mine used them to train her dog not to sit on the new living room furniture. I have the one that makes the loud noise (sounds like the smoke detector is going offand it works amazingly well. I'm pretty sure I bought mine from Drs. Foster and Smith.

Glad your story had a happy ending. It has to be the IS. Moonlight is like not Newf we've ever had/seen. She eats everything she chews on, including throw rugs, sheepskins, and flower pots. Picking up poop is always a treat. The other day I was mowing and ran over a pile that literally exploded, because it was composed of a dried chewed up cardboard box. She also destroyed a $100 bed of Echo's trying to find the squeeker in the bolster edging. So far everything has passed. I am SO happy she doesn't counter surf.

with my pups
it is very easy to cure them, if i even see them thinking of jumping up i give them a DONT YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
i have a great advantage, my puter is by the counter! LOL
i also can see it from the living room, and believe me, i know when all is quiet that someone is into trouble! hahahahaha
all it takes is anticipating and tone of voice many times.
