Goodnight My Friend

It is with a heavy heart that tonight I had to help my friend, Nuvo's Mitcharuba, cross the bridge. Mitch introduced me to Newfoundlands from the inside of a local shelter where I volunteered my time over 10 years ago. Picked up as a stray at 6 months of age, Mitch came with some bagage but then don't we all. He found a kindered spirit in my father and for the last 7 years he found his home wherever my father was. It was in his best friend's arms, with me looking on, that he left this world for a better place.

Mitch might not have been "well bred" but he was everything a Newfoundland should be and he kindled the love of the breed that I feel today. Sleep well my friend and rest assured that your legacy of love, gentleness and tenacity of purpose lives on here at Kennel Nuvo.

Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Mitch. I love what you wrote about him. My hair stood on end too as I read it.

You wrote "Mitch might not have been "well bred" but he was everything a Newfoundland should be". That is true for our Sara also. She may not be the best bred newfie, but she is worth more to us than 1 million of the best bred newfs around.

I'll say a prayer for you, your dad and Mitch

I am so sorry. There is nothing else I can say. No words of wisdom. Just I know how badly it hurts.

Thinking of you.

Be sure and tell your dad I'm so sorry. I know Mitch was his constant buddy, and chores will be harder to do without him. I remember seeing your dad work outside while Mitch tagged along and made sure things were done properly.

Take Care,
Susan

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. They mean alot.

Today was a perfect Indian summer day in Minnesota. One of those days that are so rare you remember them for years to come. 80 degrees in October, clear blue sky, the changing leaves at their peak. Tonight as the sun went down on this perfect day, we burried Mitch's ashes under the tree from where he supervised all the comings and goings of his favorite person, my dad.

As tonight's full moon is high in the sky, I swear I can hear Mitch's comical immatation of a howl. I think it is just his way of letting us know he made it across.
