Forest Fire in Fort Collins, Colorado

There's an enormous fire about 15 miles west of our house in Fort Collins, Colorado. As of this morning, it was said to have burned 37,000 acres and to be 0% contained. Fortunately, last I heard, only one person was reported missing, although a dozen homes have already been lost. The air is full of ash, and all our clothes smell like a campfire. Here are some photos from me and friends:

Ash on our deck in the morning. It also came through the windows into the kitchen and is piled on bookshelves.

From the POV of the dog park, which rests up against the foothills:

My friend, Becky McIntyre, took these a couple nights ago at Horsetooth Reservoir, where we've been doing water work with Bo:

I think I'd be getting uhaul and packing. Beautiful photos but very scary!! I think it would be neat to see/photograph as long as my home was not at risk. Aren't you afraid?

Run Karen! Ruuuuun!!!!! :D Very neat photos...but very scary. Maybe this is another sign saying that you should move east. I don't think I've ever heard of Maryland catching on fire

Unless there's a drastic shift in wind, we should be okay. The reservoir is between us and the fire, and the fire seems to be moving north. Some friends have had to evacuate, but their house is currently still safe. The only downfall we've experienced is having to keep all the windows closed because the smoke seems to lower near to the ground overnight and makes it hard to breathe (we don't have a/c so the house is pretty hot).

OMG! Makes for beautiful photos, but seriously scary stuff. Hopefully Mother Nature will step in and provide the relief needed. In the meantime, stay safe.

ouff, that's close! you guys must be seeing many red suns which are also cool to witness. I hope you guys stay safe! Those fires can change fast...once they get large enough, they can start making their own wind and can become quite unpredictable. Fingers crossed for two weeks of slow, steady rain without lightening.

I heard on the news today that the fire is making its own wind and weather conditions. Very scary!

Karen, if things change, we have a spare bed and our house is dog friendly if you need a place to stay (we're in Centennial)!! We got smoke from the Lower North Fork fire back in March, but it only lasted one evening for us and we didn't get ash like you have! Please be careful!

Wow! Wish I could send over the 5" of rain some in New England got a week or two ago! Be safe and take whatever precautions are recommended for breathing the air!
