Hi all - thanks so much for your advice, its very comforting.
We are also toileting pups as Mum tries but leaves them very dirsty - how often should they pooh? I was expecting lots more pooh - some only seem to go twice in 12 hours ?
We are weighing every 12 hours now,7pm and 7am and the ounce gain is in 12 hours so maybe all is OK so far - I do have one that is not gaining as much as the others so she will get good nipple all day and see how we go.
As much as I would love to bottle feed I don't want to risk upsetting stomach''s unless I have to so figured the longer I left it the better?
Pooh's are also getting harder - is this normal?
Sorry to be such a bore and rant on , you guys are all so helpful and I really do thank you - wish I knew how to post pics !

The amount they pooh depends on the amount they eat..and a lot of times..they will actually poo while mom is cleaning them..and you won't even know they did it. At this age..they often pooh only when stimulated to do so by her..although I have found in Newf pups they develop elimination without reflex quicker than some other breeds do. If you are getting an ounce or so in 12 hours..you are good to go :).and just make sure the little one is getting extra chances at the "good" nipples.
I feed my bitches more often too when they are nursing..lots of snacks throughout the day to help them produce more milk.
The commercial wipes for diaper cleanup for babies work well for massaging little puppy bums clean :)
