Finally Home

He's home but it was an interesting day yesterday. They would have released him Sunday but the pulmonologist insisted he must have a BiPap machine at home and none of the medical equipment people were open. So we waited. Come Monday the hospital started pushing for one. I had already made a contact with supplier different from the one who provided the CPAP- I will not do business with them any more for several reasons including that they lied to me. Anyway as I talk to the agent he tells me that Medicare may not pay for it without another sleep study verifying the necessity. Apparently 15 days in CCU on said machine and a doctor's Rx and refusal to release without one aren't enough. Everyone was churning around, Ron getting frantic to get out of there etc. I finally called our secondary insurer and said "if Medicare doesn't pay will you"?. Sure, as long as the doctor says it's medically necessary. Equipment people give me a machine with paperwork undated but if Medicare insists on such a stupid requirement in this situation I am going to just pass it along to our secondary insurer (Blue Cross). Another study would mean spending the night in a sleep lab WITHOUT the machine that the pulmonologist says is essential to his life. I DON"T THINK SO!

I picked up the machine on the way to hospital to pick him up. He slept 12 hours with it yesterday, very deeply and is gradually getting more rested. My adrenaline is beginning to drain so I am exhausted without doing anything. WE MADE IT and a week ago I did not think it was possible.

Moral- never give up, watch out for govt idiocy and hang in there.

I'm so sorry you guys had to go through all of this, but I'm glad he is home and glad he is resting well with the new equipment. Hopefully after some good rest in his own home he'll feel much better...I never, ever sleep well in hospitals....too noisy and they keep pokin' at ya.
