Emsig sent to Rainbow bridge today

Sadly today, our German Wirehaired Pointer we rescue a, was sent to the Rainbow Bridge because she had Distemper. I got the call at work before one of my classes.

She was looking ill 2 days ago so they put here on antibiotics. She had no fever, and eating and drinking just fine and very bouncy but had runny poop and a runny nose. They figured it was Kennel Cough. Yesterday they said her runs were gone and her nose dried up and she was doing so well. They had her on antibiotics and fluid iv.

They did a Parvo test and it have been negative.

All seemed fine until this afternoon. She had severe runs, gushing runny nose and had been found still and cold with a foamy mouth from having had a seizure. The put her on an oxygen mask and tried hard to save her. Her pupils pinpointed and it got worse so I had to make the call to have her put to sleep as they had done everything in their power to save her.

Bless her heart for giving even brief joy to us and her adopted owners life that she had been scheduled to fly out to this friday.

She will be missed and loved.

AWWW, poor Emsig. That is always such a heartwrenching decision that needs to be made.

Yer a good "Mom" to all God's critters that cross your path. Thank you for that, and may blessings come your way, Jenn!

Since most never saw a picture I'll post it here.

Tomorrow I have to call and let people know. I was not up to it tonight.

Thanks for the support, I do appreciate it.

Jenn..I am so sorry
I haven't heard of a dog having distemper in a long time. What a shame that he had to die of something that could have been prevented .

This is the second we have had die from Distemper from that place in the last 6 months we have rescued from there. And one from Parvo.

It all boils down to people thinking they do not need vaccinations becuase they don't take the dog out or it's bad for them or whatever reason. It angers me people think *their* dog is immune. The dog pays the ultimate price for that vanity.

Thanks all, it's been rough having to be in class with people and stay happy. I haven't had much time to grieve and think about it. Some tell me I get too attached too quick to the rescues, but I can't help it. If I don't know them and love them, it's hard to find the right homes for them.

But I know the next face that needs my help will help ease the pain knowing I may save them as well.

A lot don't get how I can do it time and time again and are very verbal about it. But again I say, "If I don't do it, who will?"

Thank you all for the thoughts, it means alot. You all have been through almost all the deaths we have had and glad for the support.

We did get a condolence card from the vet and the only one we ever received from any vet from an animal that went to the rainbow bridge. It was very touching and I thought I was done crying over this but the waterworks came back on.

I guess I thought I would be able to get over one that passes on easier with the more we rescue, but it never does. They each mean so much to me and I can forsee that each one always will.
