Doggie Panties

Hope this is the place to post this. Faith just started her first cycle and I have been told she can still attend obedience class as long as she is wearing some protection. Doggie Panties. I have checked locak stores and the largest size is for dogs up to 90 lbs. Faith is currently 106 lbs and still growing. She just turn 11 months. Any suggestions where I can get newfie size panties? She is doing so great in class I hate to have to miss any.

Ask if men's (or boys) boxer shorts would work. I'm serious. Turned backwards with her tail through the fly. If need be, you could try inserting a stick-on sanitary napkin, although I've never tried that.

Sorry no help here, but I will be watching this, and the tigg-ett will have this problem sometime in the future. I feel your pain though.

We used boxer shorts here too! Worked great! Had to tie them a bit tighter with a hair elastic at the top to make sure they didn't fall down, but she didn't even seem to notice she was wearing them!

No tips on the panties - but if I were you I would miss at least two classes with her (during the "it" period) as if you were to go there:

(a) all male owners would murder you for making their dogs go C-R-A-Z-Y (even after the class, refuse food at home, howl the nights etc). Especially if you're still in the beginners or puppy classes. If you are in the advanced classes, don't worry about it as the males should be under control and should be taught to obey even in the presence of a female in heat. (plus if you're indoors all the dogs in the following classes will still smell your dog's presence, and you'll "ruin" it for them too). It IS important for males to learn how to behave when there is a girl in heat closeby, but bringing one during the "it"-period to a beginner's class is NOT the right way. At the start of the heat (1st week) and after the 3rd week she'll still smell of heat, but the smell won't be as overwhelming as between 1-3 weeks.

(b) most likely your girl is NOT going to obey you like she normally would, but she'll be very hormonal. Trying to get her to work when she's NOT up for it will only hinder your process as she'll learn to misbehave in class. It's better to not even get her in the situation where she either doesn't want to behave or when she's not paying attention to you like she normally would (at least not until she is old enough and you have the authority (in her eyes) to MAKE HER DO IT even when she doesn't want to).

Not saying that you shouldn't train at home! YES, continue training at home during her heat, but you might need to keep the training sessions shorter than usual, and you might need to take a few steps back during the heat. (eg. when you would normally do an off-leash down stay of 2 minutes at 10 meters, you might need to keep her on a leash, only do 1 minute at 5 meters). Just so that she doesn't get the idea into her head of being able to do something wrong.

I agree with Capri 100%. I would die if a female in heat came to the class! Here they are not allowed to come, but the owners are encouraged to come and see what was being taught those weeks.

We did buy the L panties at Petsmart. Morgan is 97 lbs and wearing them right now. Only way to get bigger ones is ordering online. Sorry thats the only way I found to get bigger ones. Mens briefs worked for her until we bought panties.
I do see a problem with her around males. There's no way their gonna pay attention when she's around. We had Murphy and Morgan together Sunday before she started and he was going nuts. Had to be 10 feet or more away so he wouldn't charge her. Not good with visitors meeting them at Bass Pro. Good luck with Faith.

Boxers. Preferably with something awesome written on them. When Sulley got snipped I bought him some "I'm too sexy for my shorts" boxers.

Thanks everyone. Simple Solutions makes some doggie panties available at most animal stores. E.g Petsmart, Petco etc The large has worked for now. They have discounted their 2xl due to lack of interest. (Wonder if the sales of mens boxer has increase? LOL) but was still able to get a pair through Kpets. A bit to big for now but sure she will grow into them. Moight have to keep an eye out for boxers with cute sayings though. The training classes went well with no incidents and Faith did well.

I assist in Dog Obedience Training classes, Our club tells folks to leave the dog at home and just the person attend class. As we don't train the dogs, We train the Trainer (person), so you can go home and work your dog.

we used mens breifs. they are a bit tighter and seem to keep stuff in them better. The tail thru the fly too. And a pad would stay better.

Piper is almost a year old and hasn't had her first heat yet. We've been told she may not attend training classes, but the people are encouraged to still attend. I think this is reasonable. Kim

Having a raging hormonal male Newf almost 2 years old it's hard to fathom how female dog owners blithely bring their females in heat out in public, especially to an enclosed dog training class.

I'm lucky both arms are still in sockets despite this attitude. My male is incredibly strong, has a phenomenal nose and instantly lost his mind completely at the smell, even weeks after it supposedly was "over." He is gradually getting better but between 1.2 - 1.8 years I could easily have been seriously injured with a sudden maniac.

We just went to a newf club Howloween party, female Norwegian Elkhound 3 weeks out of season, took 2 of us very large women holding Orka back with all our strength during an excruciating walk while the enticing female trotted ahead. Rest of afternoon he was OK. He's learning but literally gets obsessively insistent and loses his mind -- you can see it in his eyes -- and getting his attention for discipline is not easy.

Ppl actually bring their females in heat to dog parks also, then wonder why everybody gets upset. Not everybody watches their dog like a hawk so fights ensue.

A young healthy strong male permeated with the scent is a Force Of Nature. Do not be ignorant and mess with this. Asking for trouble.

I agree with the concern of keeping a female in season out of class. It was the reason why I asked the question if we could attend. Both instructors felt as long as she had protection on it was fine. They saw it as a major distraction and an opportunity to work in a control environment any issues it might have cause for the males. We went to both classes including a seminar where there were 22 dogs. No issues for anyone. I knew going in that if it became an major issue for either the males or Faith we would leave. In fact brought Bristles to the seminar just in case I need to switch dogs.
