Do You Have A Healthy Newf

Is there anyone on here who currently has a newf or has had a newf who has been healthy and lived past eight years? By that I mean, the only time the newf saw the vet was for the annual wellness exam and/or vaccinations.

My first dog was a golden retriever and was healthy to the ripe old age of 13. She only saw the vet once a year.

Anya, for the most part, has been healthy...but had a partial tear in her back, right leg. And, now, osteosarcoma.

I could probably say Eden is healthy if she didn't eat whatever it is she eats that makes her sick and has required vet visits but has had skin issues including hot spots.

Arthur, the lodger, was 10 yrs old in July and has always been healthy. Don't think he has ever had a problem.

Gracie, now 13 yrs and 11 months has been so healthy that at the age of 12 yr I decided to cancel her pet insurance because she had never used it!!!

Evan, 9 yr next month, only had surgery for FCP when he was 2 yr old. He does have mild SAS but that hasn't been an issue.

My Calza is 8 1/2 and is the healthiest Newf that I've owned. She had some health problems earlier in life, resulting in having major ear canal work. But she is DEFINITELY healthy now!

Adam is 10, will be 11 in Feb, and he has only had routine vet visits. Chase who is 8, will be 9 in Feb, also has only had routine vet visits.

Merlin, almost 7, has been a healthy newf. Just some minor allergy issues. Shannon, almost 8, is also very healthy with just some minor allergy issues.

I have not been lucky at all with my newfs. My first boy died at 2 from leukemia. Heartbreaking, but I had him long enough where he taught me that I could never live without a newf. My second boy, I lost at 8 from degenerative myelopathy. And, then we have my dear sweet Roger who I lost at 7 from what we believe was due to his Inflammatory Bowel disease.

I hear about all these wonderful newfs living to these ripe old ages and I hope that one day I get the same. Got my fingers crossed w/Merlin and Shannon...

I always joke we got a broken puppy, since it seems she picks up everything >_<. Literally we've been to the vet at least once a month since we got her, whether it's the skin infection she picked up in daycare, or the kennel cough she managed to come down with even though she's vaccinated. I guess I really must love her!

Cooper, knock on wood, has been healthy except a bad prostate infection and some tummy issues/food sensitivities. Also a few aches/pains/pulls, and the time he ate cat litter...

The worst week we had I was at the vet's office on four different days for four different issues with Sophie and Gabriel...One day I was there TWICE.

...So in a word, no.

Although up to this year Hannah was doing well. She had surgery about three months ago to remove a growth from her behind that thankfully turned out to be something benign.

Rory had Cushings at 9 but lived to 10, but otherwise no problems previously. Sage will be 9 next month with no health issues. Georgie will be 7 in Jan and healthy, and Roxy will be 5 in Jan with just some allergy issues. The pet insurance company is doing well by me!

Elvis is 5 and has food allergies, but other than that is healthy. He did tear a ligament and needed a TPLO but I separate procedures from medical issues, so yes, he's healthy.

(so far.....knock on wood)

Brooke is 9-1/2. Has started receiving acupuncture for arthritis. Otherwise happy girl who is still active. Still goes out competing occasionally and does other social events. Has not completely retired yet.

Ursa had been the picture of health until this past spring. Only wellness visits and one ear infection shortly after I got her as a pup. Just past her 10 yr check up, we discovered a growth and it turns out it is cancer and inoperable. She is still doing great, is happy and has a good quality of life so far. She still plays with her little sister, mothers the chickens, chases the buzzards out of HER yard and does the stairs in the house. No ortho issues at all.

Thank you, all prayers appreciated. Ursa just had a check up this week and so far only issue is the tumor on her elbow. Good weight, muscle tone, eats well and still can blast across the back yard to chase rabbits, deer and black birds. :) It was nice to hear the vet say she's still doing great!

Thanks for the hope for the others who might need it...

Chloe has been healthy other than surgery a TTA for torn knee.Kandy has been great other then costing a small fortune because of skin issues .She is a daughter of Edan Ann so there is some genetics going on.Last year the dermatologist diagnost her with MRSP. We have clipped her fur shorter and have been able to control it quite well. We can see the sore and apply Betamethasone right on the infected areas.
