Daily swimming

Our dog, Orca, swims almost daily, too. I've been told a bunch of times to consider getting a dryer for him because some dogs get hot spots or skin infections if left damp.

I have a not so good dryer, but mostly I just towel dry him after his swim. The water doesn't seem to penetrate down to his skin. That and the silly dog prefers being damp. If it was up to him he'd live in the pool.

One of the worst things you can do is towel your dog after swimming. Typically, when swimming the coat will not get wet to the skin. When you towel the coat you are just pushing the water to the skin, where you don't want it to go.

As it gets warmer the dampness in the coat will heat up more and your dog will be more likely to get skin/bacteria infections. Your best bet is to invest in a good dryer. The K9 II is a good dryer but the K9 III is much better. It may be a bit costly at first but after a couple of trips to the vet you can more than buy one. Lynn from Sound Bay Newfs sells these dryers. You can contact her or go to ebay. Her seller name on ebay is Tennis-156. She has a K9 III listed now for under $400. http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-9-III-Pro...419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4620399d2b

Guess I'm going to be looking for a new dryer, because I'm pretty sure we'd have a revolt if I cut back on the swimming time.
About how long does it take to get a soggy newf dry with one of those? The one I have now takes forever. Taver is pretty good up on the table but after an hour he starts getting over the whole thing.

The K9 III will get him dry MUCH faster! I am also waiting to get a good dryer since what I'm using now takes forever to dry. I don't have a good one yet, but I have seen one in action and they are amazing!

Not only will you be able to dry your dog quickly you will be blowing out dead undercoat. I can dry Chase is about 30 minutes and Adam in about 45 minutes. I have the K9 III.

Chumley does therapy visits. He visits with senior citizens and children who have to testify in court. People don't generally appreciate loose hair all over their nice clothes so I have to be extra vigilant with his coat. Each time he has a visit I dry blow his coat for about 5 minutes to get out the dander. He then gets a hand held shower and shampoo. I use the k9-III to dry him which takes about 30 min. to total dryness. I finsih him off with the slicker to make him look like a fluffy poofball. I often hear how good he smells and how soft he feels. I couldn't do this without the k-9 III. It's so powerful having two motors, I've blown circuits at our vacation condo and our home...if too many porch lights on. I'll add that he loves the k-9 III as it blows only a mild heat off the motors. He refuses to stand still for my personal hair dryer which is just too hot. There is no way I would own a Newf without the k-9 III.

Swimming your newf and a good dryer go hand in hand. The K-9 II or III is your best choice for the job. Thanks Jeannie for the recommendation!

Sam swims almost every week. I have almost never dried him-don't have a dryer. Recently he has been having more skin problems that seem to be diet/allergy/gut related, so I have been more cautious. I blow a fan on him when we get home to help him dry faster, and if he swims in a non-saltwater place, I spray him down with ACV. It's been 4 years I have had him, and we've not had any problems with not drying after swimming.

I would love to have a dryer, but the budget isn't favoring it! 😉
