Cranberry pills

As you may or may not have seen in another thread, I've just starting giving cranberry pills to one of our fosters (who has UTI's).

Does anyone else do this? Cause I have no idea of how much or how often to give.

Don't know about the pills, but when Lucy had a UTI in December, I was adding crushed fresh cranberries to her meals, and she loved it.

I was giving this to Kimber for a while. I think twice a day after she first was treated for her spay incontinence. I've also added a cup of frozen cranberries to her frozen green beans but she doesn't seem to like them as much anymore.

Our vet also uses the Ester-C to help keep their urine more acidic to help with that.

Thanks everyone! I was sleuthing around on the internet, and I saw a couple of comments where people with dogs who "leak" have used cranberries to help with that problem. Not exactly sure about the results, but I got the impression they were pleased....

Annie,

I use 1 cran tab 400 mg. in their am. meal. And I use 1 - 2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar (the mother kind) in their pm. meal.

At one point, I had run out of both, and lo and behold Dex came down with a UTI. Off to the emergency clinic at 0400 in the am., and $400.00 later, I make sure I am never without one or the other, and preferably both.

JMHO,

Sue

Annie, I give cranberry softgels daily to my 2 girls + I take them. I give 2 day, 1 morning and 1 evening. I think helps cut down on uti's.

Just a question...is it common for our little girls to get UTI? Should I be giving Macy cranberries or the pill just as a preventitive measure?

I give one a day as a preventative. I know craberry juice is good for humans in this respect and I hear it is the same for dogs.
