What ages specifically? There are tons, okey maybe not tons, but a few..... Wreck of the Ethie... Newf by Marie Killilea... Then there are the Lewis and Clark books... Seaman for one which is more for older kids....

Do a search here... there probably are many listed in the archives..

Thanks Mudji.
Well.. there are multiple reasons for the question..
I have done nursing home work at a home that did not require certification before Sadie was certified. My Chow also did work for years.(I now know that is a no no with liability issues) Now that Sadie is certified, I was looking into checking out Elementary Schools. The Elementary school my daughter goes to also has additional classes for special needs children. Some have autism others have learning disabilities and a few are in wheelchairs.

I have was thinking age 5/6 ish.. something simple they could read. Rhonda had a great suggestion about the coloring pages on another post. My oldest daughter is also 5 and loves to read. Since she loves the Newfs too.. win win

Then something around the 4th grade. I have 2 different ideas here I am working on.

We are also looking at possibly going over the the Ronald McDonald House to help. The information could be incorporated there too.

Thanks :)

Here’s a list of my favorites kid dog books from my shelves. Not all about Newfs, but all great books. Some of them are available through the NCA or Seattle Club websites & so some $ goes to Rescue.

Natalia’s Favorite Color by Rosanna Dude
I Want a Dog & Julian by Dayal Khalsa
Widget & the Puppy by Lyn McFarland
Jake by Deborah King
Stanley’s Party by L. Baily & B. Slavin
The Lighthouse Dog - Forgot author’s name
Dear Mrs. LaRue & 2 other books in this series by Mark Teague for Scholastic Books.

I used Newf by Marie Killilea in kindergarten when I took my first newf in. The kids loved it and remembered it for years. It's a nice story about a newf in a storm. Marie Killilea is the one who wrote Karen and With Love from Karen about her daughter with cerebral palsy and her newf.

My favorite would have to be Seaman's Journal - On the trail with Lewis and Clark
by Patricia Reeder Eubank. Her illustrations are awesome, and I was lucky enough to meet her and talk newfs :) (I have a tee-shirt with the cover picture on it too)
She also did the illustrations for Natalia's Favorite Color, her daughter wrote it. She has published several childrens books, and they all have at least one newf in them. :)

I just ordered a new book I hadn't heard of, Marshall: A Nantucket Sea Rescue by Whitney Stewart. Based on a true story. Will let you know how it is.

I really liked "Old Dog Cora and the Christmas Tree" by Consie Powell.
There are many good ones out there!

Old Dog Cora is truly a gem. Didn't realize it was done by Consie Powell. The list I posted was one I had done for another friend who is embarking her Newf on a R.E.A.D. program. She already had Cora, among others mentioned. How many folks do reading assistance programs with their dogs??

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I will be sitting with my Amazon browser looking up the titles to check out the books.

I am just getting into it NSmarlis.. hoping to do the reading assistance too. I kinda figured we can do different things different months to break it up a little.

I love the "Thunder" books. They are targeted to younger children, but many adults here enjoy them, and my 7th graders love to be read aloud to from them.

Marlis,
We will be, starting this summer (with both dogs, no less). Ian is taking one of them (probably Aquila, his "groupie"). I'll see if I can get pictures, lol, if he'll let me take his picture!
Old Dog Cora is one of my favorites, it is so beautiful. The Keepsake Box is another, for older kids. Ditto all the rest, I have every kid book featuring a newf anyone has written, lol.

For the younger kids who may have disabilities, however, I'd probably simplify and go with dog-themed books, such as Go Dog, Go! That is a good one for age 5-6, and is so much fun to read. Emerging readers (children at the younger age) read at different levels, so what your 5 year old daughter may read with ease, a number of others may really struggle with. When mine started kindergarten, all three could read, but the rest of their classmates could not. So something really easy is good for that age. And short, something with maybe six or seven pages. Maybe you could even put together your own with the help of the librarian (who is also a good source of info as to what books are available featuring dogs and newfs).

I really appreciate all of these suggestions myself. I have been thinking about building a library of Newf books. I took your suggestions and bought several of the titles that you each have mentioned. Plan on doing some reading at the library, once Scarlet gets her CGC (hopefully, in November).
