Change in Iams canned formulation?

I've been feeding Harley a half can of Iams ground Lamb & rice for several years.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that they had changed their labels and the food in the cans is ground much finer that before. Harley has been having the runs from this stuff and he's turning his nose up a lot on his dinner...

Any ideas? I'm kinda limited in terms of what is available in the area and my budget is limited by my social security check....

Heh... I feed Harley a bag of Iams per month, half a can of dog food a day, three table spoons of pumpkin and a few cut up deli ends each meal. I don't really have a budget, just my social security... I live in a HUD subsidized 430 sq ft apartment. By the end of the month if I have $25 left I consider myself lucky....

Depending on what they changed in the food, he may just be having trouble adjusting? You could call the company to verify the changes. The first thing to do would be get his tummy under control...cut out the dog food and go with a bland diet for a couple of days. Then start back with small amounts of the kibble. If he's fine with that, add in just a little wet food and slowly increase as long as he tolerates it.

If you can't do the bland diet, maybe you could cut out everything except the dry food and the pumpkin for a few days and see if that helps. If he's good with that, slowly increase the amount of wet. Or you could just keep him on dry if he'll eat it that way?

Good luck...I hope his problem is corrected soon!!! I hate it when they change the formulas in the food!

can he tolerate tuna or fish.
also perhaps a plain meat soup made from bolied bones may be better than a can of food and cheaper for you. Just boil a carcass or bones and then reduce the liquid level. mine go nuts for this if I mix a tablspoon of it with warm water on their food

I would cut out the can of meat for now unless its a bad batch but worth asking what has changed.

We priced canned dog food and found that human quality sardines, tuna and mackeral are cheaper and are total protien - no fillers. I find the sardines sometimes for $1.00 a can. I look for those canned in water or olive oil. If your dog can tolerate sardines - they are supposed to be very good for both us and our pets. Another thing our dogs like on their kibble is eggs. My Mother only eats the egg whites - the dogs love the yolks.

I have to look at tunafish... Harley loves to eat pieces of my fish when I eat fish&chips... so maybe he'll like tuna. My social security check should hit in 2 days so I'll go shopping then.

Look for reduced bargains and freeze if you have access to one.also when you buy a chicken make a stew from the bones and bits. l buy many a reduced bargain as dates are only an indicator but obviously if it looks bad dont buy.

It can help your budget go a lot further sometimes.good luck and hope the tummy settles soon
