NY...Ester C IS regular vitamin C, except it's buffered so it won't upset the tummy.
So...it has all the same components of regular vitamin C.
You know...after reading all this, and using a product with Bromelain (Dog Gone Pain) that worked really well...then switching to Cosequin DS, which works really well... I'm beginning to think that perhaps for a dog with problems or just older with arthritis setting in, a good combo would be Cosequin DS PLUS plain ole Bromelain tablets.
The G/C in Cosequin is absorbed well and helps with lubricating the joints...and the Bromelain reduces inflammation, therefore reducing pain. It's also a natural immune system booster.
Soooo...instead of getting a much more expensive product like Cetyl M(for a Golden at 75 lbs, you'd have to give six pills a day for 4-6 weeks, and with two needing it, it would cost $120 the first month alone, and then drop to about $65 each month thereafter)... I'm going to try the regular dose of Cosequin and add the very inexpensive Bromelain.
As was said earlier somewhere Puritan's Pride has a 3 for one sale going on...making Bromelain $15.25 for 3 bottles of 120 tablets (totalling 360 tablets).
This combo would cost me $36.00 per month for a loading dose of three Cosequin per day and two Bromelain per dog....and then $25.80 per month for maintenance. That's two 75 lb dogs...at less than half the price.
Now...the Cetyl M is something that actually reverses arthritis in some cases. However, from what I've read, it's to be used for a one month course...not as a daily additive.
Here's the article explaining what it does...and the story behind it. It sounds like great stuff...but it is pricey.
Cetyl Myristoleate
