Carpet Cleaning

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get pet stains out of carpet? I rented the carpet cleaner from Home Depot. It did a great job. The carpet came cleaner than I thought it would. I'm going to go over it again in the morning, but I'm not sure it will all come up.
Unfortunately I have light beige carpet upstairs and Maddie (my almost 10 yr old) can't always make it downstairs in time.

Actually shaving cream works pretty well. I was surprised when I heard about it, but it did work. I just bought the cheapest one, squirted some on each spot and then worked it in with a small brush. Then let it sit for a bit until it was time to use the carpet cleaner.

Try bicarb paste.......work it in and vacuum and after that the carpet cleaner. Does work better on fresh stains

Oxyclean works for me. I buy the powder and mix it with water per the instructions on the back of the container. I saturate the spots and then let it set for about 5 minutes before using the stream cleaner.

I recently had episodes where my Newfy had diarrhea on brand-new ivory colored carpeting and it completely took care of the spots.

Call me when your done cleaning the carpets. Think this afternoon would be the best day weather wise.
Warmer and way less WIND!!! Don't need that again.

Do like the ideas so far on carpet cleaning. Never knew about shaving cream. Is that because of the light carpets?
My dad loves Oxy Clean. Never used it myself though. I'll keep watch on this one.

Does Maddie go to the same spot on the carpet usually? Buy an area rug and put it there - easy to wash.

Didn't know about the shaving cream either - interesting!!

Do any of these remedies get the smell out too? I've tried natures miracle but the smell persists and is driving me crazy!

Ok, I LOVE Oxyclean! I never thought the stains would come out of the carpet but they did! I got the powder and mixed it according to the directions for cleaning carpets. I let it sit for 5 minutes then went over it with the carpet cleaner.
This morning she had another accident and I used the Oxyclean again, but had taken the carpet shampooer back. The stain still came up, and no smell.
I also love Home Depot's carpet cleaner. $18 for 4 hours. It's easy to use, and easy to clean.
