Canine Life Muffins

Anyone make/buy these for your dog? Thoughts?

Molly, our non-newf, has serious weight issues... She's underweight (49 pounds when she should be 60, minimum) and when I manage to get her up to a reasonable weight something (anxiety, irritated stomach) will set her off and she'll lose it again.

I cook all her meals because she can't process kibble and the vet has suggested I give her life muffins as a mid-day and late-night snack in addition to her meals.

I've never heard of them so I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it...

Thanks!

I don't know about them, but if you search Satin Balls on here, you should get some valuable info. They seem to be pretty popular when it comes to putting weight on a dog...

Are they another term for "satin balls", which have a sticky on NN.

I have had several Rescues with weight issues and all have gainer their weight with Satin balls.......I think they are the same, just recalling form a previous (long ago) post I read somewhere on another Forum

I googled them...they're not satin balls. I would love to hear of someone who has actually tried them. They looked pretty interesting.

We have a berner rescue who couldn't maintain her weight. We give her 1/4 cup pure pumpkin ( not pumpkin pie filler) twice a day and it has made a big difference. Kim

 So I also googled it...Sounds like our RAW baked in a Muffin :)

Satin Balls do work well for weightgain and i think will be a lot cheaper

Yea, the main difference is they are baked. And the meat choice (if you make them yourself instead of buying them pre-baked) is yours. Also not sure if Gelatin is part of it.

I've read the Satin balls recipe on here before but was a little nervous about giving her raw meat. (especially given her stomach/bowel sensitivity) Anyone have a problem with that? Safety precautions?

I know a lot of NNers feed raw diets so I'm not knocking that. Just don't know enough to make a decision on it.

And yea, cheaper is definitely better!! :) Molly's home cooked diet is EXPENSIVE.

I do some home cooking for some dogs.....I use 1 1/2 cup of rice, 1/2 cup of mixed grains/lupins (barley, dried peas, dried beans) and 1/2 cup of meat (ground). I soak the rice and grains over night in 6 cups of water. Add the meat in the morning. Cook at a 6 out of 10 level in the microwave for 24 minutes, uncovered. When it is cooked, I mix in a 1/2 cup of rolled oats and cover it. It goes into the Fridge and we feed this out at night for any lean dogs. It is Annabelle's favorite food and got her back to good weight when we got her as a very thin Rescue. We feed all RAW in the morning always and often RAW bones.
I do not have loose poop problems here, cannot remember when the last time was. But I do think that we have less bugs around here. A lot of your common bugs, such as Giardia (?spell) are rare.
We also put weight on Tobias with the Satin Balls and the food mix . he was a very sick boy when we got him and only gained weight and seemed better with the mix and the Satin balls.
Lukey our most recent Rescue also gained weight with the mix (above) and satin balls. I can only speak from experience, but we have had no issues with ours at all with the satin balls.......Good luck
