Bissell Vacuum Review Needed

My mom is thinking about buying one of the new Bissell upright vacuums. The two new models are geared towards pet owners (Pet Hair Eraser and
Lift-Off Pet). She doesn't have any dogs, but has 3 very hairy cats. I told her I'd post to the list to see if anyone has one of these Bissell vacs and if so, do you like it.

I'd love to hear your reviews...

I had the lift-off, suction was good, and I liked it for a while, but then it started blowing dust and no matter how much I cleaned filter, etc. it still blew dust. So I can't give a recommendation to that one.

Thanks Sheila. Last Christmas I bought a Eureka vac and after the first few times I used it, it started blowing the dust out the back too. I junked it in January. Thanks so much for your review.

central vac is the only way to go in my opinion. Had it in this house for 20 years and only ever had to replace 1 power head. It may be more money in the beginning but it's worth it in the long run.

We have central vac as well. The motor / canister is in the garage so there is no chance of dust blowing in the house.

Not sure which Bissell you're looking at but Consumer Reports rates all the Bissells toward the middle to bottom of their uprights. A couple of the Bissells got just "fair" ratings for pet hair, others got "good" (with very good and excellent being above that). Their top pick was a Kenmore progressive with direct drive and the Hoover wind tunnel 2.....

I got a Bissell about a year ago.. The part that is supposed to do stairs and stuff busted after a few weeks. It works Ok I guess but I have my heart set on a Dyson.

We had a Bissell when we first got Murph and the motor blew up in about 4 months. We've had our Dyson for well over a year now and I don't know how I'd survive without it with these two furry beasts and plans to add more.

I've got a Kenmore Progressive (8 year old) and it kicks the butt of any others we've tried, including the Dyson. I think Dyson's must have a few lemons out there...mine being one. There are two others in my neighborhood that are very poor...and one dyson that is great, so far. But the Kenmore Progressive just keeps going.

I have tried so many vacuums, but my central vac works the best. It has plenty of suction and there are no rollers or parts to get tangled with hair. I also had the Bissel Pro Heat carpet cleaner, but it did not last at all. My carpet rake is a must too!

I've had Hoover's Bisell's, Sears, Dysons and all have not survived the hair of 3 large newfs. The Dyson still works, just cannot really get the hair. I've had a Symplicy 7 Series vac and just love it. It comes with a 5 yr warranty and NO PLASTIC PARTS. All the parts are heavy duty steel. It's held up the last 2 years and is still going strong. I have the kenmore progressive...Great for my wood floors, but terrible for the area rugs...Does not pull the dirt out, and I does'nt pick up the newf hair that great on the rug.

I'm in the market for a new vacum..I want to get a dyson canister, but Dan says I'm nut's because of the price.

I have the equivalent Riccar 8955. Riccar and Simplicity are under same company Tacony. The vacuums share a lot of similarities. Also, no problems here.

I would stay away from the 2 motor series Riccar or Simplicity. The 2nd motor can be a problem if it clogs up cause you have to take it in to get it unclogged.

When i had carpeting i had a rainbow, it ran daily for fifteen years and had a water tank to collect the hair, at the end of a vacume session the hair overtook the water (what water?)
anyway, i would never hesitate to go back to rainbow.
never needed to replace anything, no belts power heads nothing.
now?
with all ceramic floor and linolium i use a shop vac, the biggest one they had, with a crevice tool.
gits all the dirt and fur very quickly!

For those who want a Dyson but don't want to pay the price......you can get one (many styles available) on Amazon that's been refurbished.

You get a factory warranty with those too.

And, they're a good deal cheaper than the full retail price.

I've been looking at that option myself.

Rainbow vacuum for me also. I used a Dyson animal and then the rainbow rep vacuumed right after me and the amount of fur he pulled out of a just dyson cleaned carpet was amazing. I have 80% hardwood and it just works wonders on all surfaces. Well worth the money for pet owners.

The Bissell that I used to have blew dust as well, and eventually it stunk up the house when you would vacume. I burned it. I hated that vac.
