Big Fella was BAD!!

Big Fella was such a bad boy last night! My husband and I were relaxing downstairs and Big Fella went off to bed without us like he often does. Well, after a while I decided to go upstairs to get the bag of peanut butter M&M's I had stashed in my nightstand drawer. (I'm sure most of you already know where this is going now.) I entered the room to find Big Fella standing there trying to look innocent and trying to hide the empty bag of M&M's behind him. So naughty!! He had opened the drawer, pilfered through the contents, leaving his slimy evidence trail everywhere, and tore open the package all by himself. He ate a whole package full of them. Poor Cooper who was locked up in his kennel had to sit and witness the whole thing. Big Fella didn't even share! Cooper was drooling like crazy. He always knows when he's been a bad boy too. All I have to do is look at what he's done and say "Get out!" He runs for the door so he can go outside for his time-out away from the crazy, angry momma. Thank goodness it was only the peanut butter M&M's so I don't think he got much chocolate. I guess I'll have to find a new hiding spot to stash my snacks!

And at least 7 foot in the air too. :) Glad he is OK.

But I have to be nosey, why was Cooper locked in his crate? I guess that is one of my pet peeves with some people I know who keep their dogs tied up or crated in the house when they are home. But then these are people who should never have pets anywway. And most here in newf.net are not like the people I know.

Cooper still has some puppy behavior traits that make crateing him at bed time and when we're gone a good thing. He doesn't mind sleeping in his crate at all. He's got a big comfy bed in there and it's in the bedroom with mom and dad. He is NOT in there all of the time. That would be cruel. The dogs like to be on a schedule though and sometimes their bed time and mine don't always coincide so he was already in bed for the night. Big Fella doesn't even use a crate at all anymore. Hopefull Cooper will get to that point soon too.

Heh heh heh ... he was ornery all right! Although did you REALLY think he would carry M & Ms over to Cooper? (Thought: maybe he DID??)

My Newf ate a bag of M & Ms once. Phone call to vet went like this:
"My dog ate a pound of M & Ms."
"Oh no! What does he weigh?"
"About 160 lbs."
Silence. Then, "No, I meant the dog."
"I did, too."
Silence. Then, "Who IS this? Oh! Max's mom. (Starts laughing). He'll be FINE!"

And he was!

Well, I guess if he was thoughtful enough to figure out how to pull open the drawer he could have figured out how to share with his brother too. It's a nice idea but somehow I doubt if the big glutton did. Since there's a thief in the house now, does anyone know how to install an alarm system in a nightstand drawer? This also reminds me of the time when he unzipped my purse and laid everything out for inspection. He even took all of the cards out of my wallet and lined them up nice and neat on the floor. He discovered my flavored lip glosses and found them to be quite a treat!

Radio Shack makes a nice, noisy motion detector. I bet you could rig that to go off if he went in there.

You could also get some of those tabs you child proof drawers and cabinets with. My lower kitchen and bathroom cabinets all have them, due to the cleaning products that are stored there.
They work pretty well, so far. The "child proof" toilet seat latch, I bought, though, was apparently not "newf proof". He had the lid up in less time than it took me to put the thing on!

No WAY!! Methinks you have the wrong dog in a crate!

Aah, Anita, that's just because he's a landseer. Those work fine with blacks!!

Maybe he is NOT a naughty boy...maybe he is just very concerned about your health and was willing to sacrifice his own health to save you and your hubby. What a good boy!

In the future if you want to send me all your M&M's I could sacrice for you too.

I think he was just trying to help...Angus very thoughtfully counter surfed and took the package of chocolate chip muffins and carefully put it on the floor, opened it and gently ate just one before he got busted. he left the bagels and the bananas for me, but figured I'd be better off without the muffin.

Cool, I figured it was a good reason, and like I said, I would suspect anyone who posts here would never just crate a dog because they can't deal with them. Unfortunatly in this town, there is a lot of that or just park the dog outside in a fenced yard or chain. Snuffles and I walked up a alley yesterday, and I saw 3 dogs on chains, one I know never goes in or has any real loving and on a short chain. And that has been going on for years. Makes me SICK! Neighbors have called animal contol before, but now supposely Animal Control is now run by the Sherrif's Dept, and has been a bit more aggressive at dealing with bad pet owners. Infact this month, they are doing a amnesty program to not fine anyone who has not kept shots and license up to day, and starting May 1, are going to take action. There are two dogs I plan on calling on.

Yea, it's his saving grace. I should have known he was gonna do some mischief. Sometimes he gets this look in his eye that means trouble is brewing.

I might get a child lock for that drawer. I should put child locks on everything. I have a cat who amuses herself opening all of the cabinets and drawers at night. I've seen her sit in a drawer that's part open and ride in it as it slides out. She also gets a kick out of waiting for our other cat to go in the cabinet and shutting the door on him (he can't figure out how to open it!)

Gee, I never really thought of Big Fella as being such a hero for saving us from our poor eating habits. I guess I should give him credit there. He's got his work cut out for him here though! I re-stocked the M&M's. They're those new Ogre Sized Shreck ones!! Yummy!! :D

I have started sending Brody to his crate when he's being a BEAST. I send my child to his room when he's being a brat (you can donate money to his therapy fund). If I feel comfortable doing that to my child, I don't feel guilty doing it to my dog (you can donate money to his therapy fund too).

You can contribute to my therapy fund too...this is how it will be utilized...

Angus is such a good boy I think I'll put him in a bedroom and my grandson in the crate!!!

I always tell my neighbors with kids, at least I can put Snuffles in his crate when he is bad, but if you would lock up the kids, DCFS would have you arretsed.

We carte for punishment for the occassional ecessivly bad behavior. But there are a lot of dogs crated because the owners do not want to take the time to work with the dogs to make them good house pets.

There was a neopolitan mastiff (sinced moved) I met last year along our walk. He was a rescue with a major shoulder problem, because his old owners kept him crated in a crate way too small. I also know a beagle that is so hyper, because he is crated most of the time.
