So OK, I had hopes we would get out by 8 AM. Too old, too beat up took way longer to pack. Left 12:30. Long 6:30 EDT we pulled off the Interstate to get gas. Got to end of ramp, A/C seemed to quit and suddenly there was smoke. Ron pulled over, I grabbed Thunder and we leaped out. No fire, but definitely a major problem. This after having car in shop all week, being checked out and made "safe". Lots of people stopped and offered help. We called auto club for tow, highway patrolman stopped and stayed with us. Turned out to be a distant relative of DH. Ron's great grand-father had 32 children so pretty much anyone in GA. is related. HA! Anway they towed us, but Thunder had to ride in our car and they wouldn't let me stay with him. Scary for my poor baby. Then, here we sit in a town we don't know at the auto mechanics which closes 30 minutes after we get there. Taxis wouldn't take Thunder, hotels didn't have any vans out that way. Finally after about 2.5 hours tryi9ng varous things we called the cops. Bingo-it took a little while but they agreed to come rescue two old folks and a huge dog. We put Thunder in one cops car, I sat in front and we headed for the 24 hours vet place just in case. Other cop and Ron stopped at a motel and the cop told them Thunder was a rescue dog so- we are in a very nice motel, no extra charge for Thunder. I think tomorrow depending on what the diagnosis is on ours, we may simply rent something else and be on our way.
