We attended a grooming seminar yesterday where Bo got his first big boy haircut, so in honor of Bo's fresh look AND the Bad Hair Day photo challenge (submit! Judging on Wednesday! Shameless plug!) I present to you a montage of Bo on the grooming table.

Oh, he looks very dignified and tidy. I like that he wasn't stripped down but neatened up and thinned around the neck and shoulders. I love that his groomer used the 'horse shoeing' technique to trim nails. It really seems to calm a dog who is adverse to nail clipping to snug them up close and maintain good anatomical positioning. I think Bo looks Bo-tiful.

Bo you look fabulous!!

I was bummed we missed the groom session yesterday! I had a calamity of errors all happen at the wrong time. It looks like it was pretty cool!

Very handsome! At first I didn't like Gilly's short trimmed ears, but after a week or so they really grew on me and now I love them - plus, SO much easier to brush. I hope you took notes! I had a tutorial from a local groomer which was great...but now I wish I had taken a video because I can't really remember some of the finer details! I'm sure I'll do a few terrible cuts before I figure it out, but I'm hoping you can't do TOO much damage (looks-wise) with thinning shears...

The trimmed down ears make the dogs look SO different - they really are hard to get used to, even if you technically like them! :D I have to find a good pair of thinning shears now so I can replicate the look. We'd been using sewing scissors, which is probably why he looked like he stuck his head in a lawnmower before we got him groomed by a pro.

Hey Karen, I've amassed a pretty good collection of grooming tools, but Willis still looks like the lawnmower had its way with him after I've trimmed him  I really have no business grooming him myself, but I've convinced myself if I keep trying, one day he will look like he's ready for the show ring :) Delusional? Probably. But it's kind of fun to play hairdresser!

The guy that was showing me what to do said he gets his Geib gator single-sided thinning shears from renspets.com but that's a Canadian site...though I'm sure they are available somewhere in the US :) He said he really liked the Geib shears and that they had lasted him a long time and as a breeder he's at shows all the time with freshly groomed beasts. They don't seem terribly expensive on the canadian side, and usually things are less expensive in the US.

...until I get around to it though, I've been using my sewing scissors too!

I got my Geib and Gator shears and thinners from PetEdge. I cringed at first on the prices, and then realized the money I would save in the long run by doing it myself. Meanwhile, my dogs are sometimes in the "lawnmower" class of trims, but I'm learning and they can't see themselves. LOL

He is so handsome.

I keep thinking I will trim Bailey's ears but he just looks so cute with it long plus when he lays over the ac vent it blows up in the air. Bailey pouts when I trim his feet he would much rather have the long shaggy look then to be trimmed and looking handsome.
