Reminds me of this saying:

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." (Author unknown)
This is so beautiful. I hope you don't mind me sharing this.

Jess, I smiled when I read your post :) I'm glad you chose, or will choose, to love another dog when the right dog finds you :)

“The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love.”
This is a beautiful quote and a very wise piece of advice. Truman is our first addition after loosing Benson and I was scared to death for many reasons. I didn't think I could love another as intensely. Oh...yes you can and I'm treasuring every single precious memory. Hugs to you!

When my son asked me to meet him at the pound to help him pick out a dog I looked at the one he was interested in and asked, "Why on earth did you pick that dog?" She looked so small, so ugly, and she was curled in a tight ball and would not even look at us. He replied, very wisely, "Because she needs me." There is always a dog that needs you, whether it be at a shelter or at a breeder's.

Thank you so much to all of you and your very heartfelt replies. I simply cannot bear the thought of living life without a Newf by my side for as long as I can manage to physically care for one. And I do not want to live life in fear...I have never lived life that way so why should I now? :) The risk is worth it to me. And I do not regret one minute spent with him...even though our time was shortened. I would do it all over again.

I'm reaching through this computer and hugging all of you.

Thank you.
If you live in fear, you will live with regrets. GET that Newf. Love the hell out of it. Another one doesn't break or divide your heart; it heals and grows your heart. :grouphug:

Jess,

Here is my Bear, the reason for my two!!! He is a big part of my heart yesterday, today & forever....Since I've mentioned him numerous times and I took the time to go in the attic to find my pics tonight, I figured I'd share such a beautiful piece of my life. The pictures are pictures of these old 110 film, so sorry for the poor quality but it does not take away from his beauty. The vet who saw him said his best guess was he was a newf/lab mix but looking at him now maybe he was older than I was told and he could have been from a byb but I love him with my soul no matter what he was, and his special something made me.....yes MADE ME, 20 some odd yrs later get the two I have now, that I could not imagine life without....they actually complete me today.

LIVE LIFE TO IT"S FULLEST!!!!!! Now I'm gonna go post him in the Rainbow thread so that he's there where he belongs forever!! My Love BEAR!!!

Hug your pups and tell them you love them!

Dawn! He is beautiful! :) Your heart dog.. Which is what my Gabe was for me. ;)
I love hearing all of these beautiful stories. They bring tears to my eyes- but in a good way!
Now I am just weighing my options- and the pros and cons- pup vs. rescue vs. breeder rehome. And quite honestly there aren't any cons to any of the choices!

I couldn't say it better, and so far, my Gabe is my heart dog, so I can so relate. Best of luck with your choice. If you follow your heart, it will be the right choice.

Just listen cause....you'll hear the right one calling your name, pup...rehome or rescue...you'll know, and if you don't hear, Gabe will guide you.
