Another Heat Question

Scarlett started her first heat cycle on Saturday and is has been getting heavier as the week goes on. I know she will bleed for 7-10 days and is fertile after the bleeding stops and to keep her away from male dogs. I also understand that after the bleeding stops she will be fertile for another 10 days or so. My question is will there be some kind of sign for me to see when she is fully finished with the cycle and is no longer fertile? Or do I just assume that after keeping her confined for 3-4 weeks and giving her a good bath she is fine to be around other dogs?

You won't know for sure, so give it a couple of weeks and you should be fine.

So Scarlett is in day 8 of her cycle and for the past hour she keeps waking me up wanting to go outside and pee. She is marking all over the place and will not stop wining about going out five minutes after we just came in. Is this normal or should I get her to the vet in the morning?

That can be part of being in season and usually is not an UTI. The behavior does stop in a day or two, but keep your eye on her for signs of a UTI.

I'd get a urine sample to the vet. Sounds like a UTI. Is she leaking any urine?

Hi Ginny, I actually did take her this morning to make sure she does not have a UTI before the weekend and she is fine. She is still peeing more than usual but not marking her territory like she was and not crying to go out nonstop. Thanks!
