She went form TOTW High Prairie to TOTW Pacific Stream. Wow does the Pacific Stream smell fishy. She has been on it for 1 week now, but her breath is getting stinky / fishy.

What can I give her to freshen up her breath? She can not have Greenies. Is there a grain free breath freshner?

PS: I did not have to switch foods.

Thanks.

Bonesicles! Raw/frozen bison or game femur or backs. Cleans the teeth & the tongue :)

Hope these aren't dumb questions. Where do I get these? Do they splinter? They must be big enough that they are safe. I would love links to sites if they can be bought on-line.

I wrote this recently in someone elses thread on TOTW. Sorry no help on the answer.

Funny you mention dog breath. I don't notice the breath per-say, but where he licks definitely has a obnoxious smell to me. Snuffles LOVES to like his manhood and to me almost obsessively, though the vet can't see anything bad down there and says "Boys being boys". I think how she phrased it. To much information I know :)

Till we went on the TOTW, I never noticed a smell. But now there is a definite odor from his belly area, and I think it is from Snuffles saliva. Poops have been the best I have ever had. On Origen, they were firm, but to me extremely smelly. He may be passing gas a bit more, but from never smelling it, maybe a hand full of times now I have smelled it.

Ok, I used the search fourm and found info on the marrow bones. Can you only get from a supermarket or butcher shop?

Anthony, bones only become brittle and splinter 'after' they are cooked. As long as you give raw bones, you shouldn't have a problem with splintering.

If you get the sliced marrow bones, be sure to scoop out most of the marrow at first before giving to her. Marrow is very rich and could upset her tummy/give her the runs until she gets used to it. If you get femurs or knuckle bones, she won't be able to get at much of the marrow so you don't have to do anything. The biggest thing is do NOT give cooked bones....only raw...or you stand a chance of splintering. I also give my crew the big beef ribs to gnaw on.

You may have a Concord Pet around you, I think they have a few stores in PA. I get the Nature's Variety frozen ham bones from them, Moe eats one about every other day. They also have turkey necks, lamb shanks, beef and bison bones. They don't all sell the same things, but if you ask, they will stock them in the freezer.
What about the Booth Wynn Farmers Market? I haven't been up there in a while, but Stolzfus down at the New Castle Farmer's Market sells bones and pork necks and the like. If you ever come down this way, Bacchetti Bros. in the Midway Shopping on Kirkwood Hywy sells large beef marrow bones, they're $2/lb.

I just checked, they have a Concord Pet in Valley View Shopping Center in Aston, and one in West Chester.

You also have to be careful of the weight bearing bones, like the shanks / tibia / ulna. They can splinter when raw.

Stick with backs, ribs, femurs, necks or joints and you're golden :allg069:

The Concord Pet store is where I get her food. I will ask b/c I know there is not a freezer in any of the aisle's. Must be in the back.

Thanks !!

If you want to save money, unless your baby has allergies, you can get bones cheap from any butcher. Some might even give them away...
I have to get moose, deer, or bison, and sourced a wild game butcher.

Yes or if they have dried naturally, especially in Summer..........If you are unsure with bones, start with Brisket bones, Just ask the butcher to cut up some brisket bones. they are good to start with for dogs who are not used to bones, All of it will be consumed happily by your dog and you will get all the benefits.

Our dogs get all raw bone.....They have no smelly breath and beautiful teeth.

For instant breath relief, just chop a little parsley and/or mint (not cooked) and add to food
