Here are three other hotels nearby. The first one I considered for the GTG the first year, but for some reason didn't choose them. They're not far from the Windjammer. And the road between the two is virtually empty at that time of year.

I'd try them first!

I just wanted to say that I'm astounded and so happy about the enthusiasm this year! It's going to be a GREAT time!

For those who still want to come, do book another hotel nearby (see post above for locations and contact). We don't spend any time in our rooms anyway. We're ALWAYS outside, since the Windjammer has a huge center open area with tables, etc. Plus, we're all wandering between rooms, sharing food, drinks, bathrooms, etc.

It's a great big open house for friends and family.

Where one sleeps doesn't matter....the daytime is Newf time, and we gather together in one spot in the evenings. Rooms are for sleeping...that's it!

So...COME ONE COME ALL!! The more the merrier!

We might want to start thinking about logo designs, we have a good amount of time to brainstorm ideas for this year (how about a hotel bursting with newfs, lol)!

Sounds appropriate! :)

Yeah...I have a couple of ideas I'm working on. And am going to try to corral some artistic people for the designs. Then we'll all decide which ones to use! I really really don't want to reuse any of the previous ones.

I like it too...and I think Donna/drulzelot is artistic enough! :) She's really quite a wonderful artist but hides it from us most of the time! And since it was her suggestion............... OH, Donna!

Grrrrr! My reservation has no room number on it. When I made the reservation, they originally said it was for 206. I told them I wanted 208 and they said, no problem. So I said it again to make sure it was 208 and that I was bringing two newfs, and they said yes! So I just called back to confirm and they informed me it was 206 because 208 is not for pets :( I hate not getting my own way, but know I'm still going to have fun!!!

Maybe they have a new owner and had to check? Who knows. They are condos so it's different than a hotel. Individual owners come and go and make new "rules" based on a bad experience.

I told her to tell the owners in 109 to stay home. hahaha And 300 is being renovated. sigh

They allow pets all year round and I'm sure not everyone is as careful as we are about the rooms or the property.

LOL.. SO I wasn't loosing it when I thought 208 wouldn't allow pets. It will still be fun with you on the other side Suse. :)

We took Solly for his lymes boost today. He went down the steps fine.. so I thought we could go up the steps fine... HA.. he decided to put all breaks on and I almost fell on my a**.. backwards down the steps. Thank goodness for handrails.

So.. we reverted to setting on the steps and coaxing him up with treats. We've are up to 4 steps now. Sadie was so cute.. she came down like come on and was walking down to him... would go up about 6 steps and wait to see if he was coming. We'll see if we can make it to 6 steps tomorrow.

I'm still trying to figure if Myra will do steps, she's never been up any and now she's got to do 3 flights.. I need to find a place local that I can give a try...Zeke has only done steps at a friends, but it took him a while to figure it out.

Last year, my sister and I stopped for lunch on friday on our way to the Windjammer. We chose this deli/restaurant at the Indian River Inlet Marina, because we'd seen people eating outside on their porch with their dogs. We had a 9 mo. old Newf who couldn't yet be trusted left alone in the car while we went inside to eat. The people there were so nice. They gave Chumley a big bowl of water. We stopped at noon and we were the only people there the whole time. The food and service was great, plus we got to watch the charter boats come and go through the marina. There's plenty of public restrooms and acreage for your dog to do his business.

OC get together

Hi all....this is Chumleysma's sister, the one in the picture with Chumley. I will be making the OC trip again this year and look forward to seeing everyone again. My sister told me the rooms for dogs have all been reserved, and that the barefoot mailman hotel is now being recommended. I wanted to inform everyone that i have stayed at this hotel in the past with my two basset hounds (both barkers!) I love this hotel, they are very dog friendly and the rooms were nice and clean. I stayed on the top floor, with 2 double beds, and a kitchenette. There is an elevator in the building, so steps are not an issue for dogs, or people. Sadly, there is no ocean view, but there is a nice sidewalk at the side of the hotel leading to the beach. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The owners adore dogs, and charge a very minimal fee for two dogs. I forget now the actual fee, but i did comparison shopping, and they were by far the very best. (they also allow dogs during summer months) Anyway, just wanted everyone to know, i had an excellent experience with this hotel! Hope this helps.

Hi Stacy and sister! :)

Thanks for the information! I had actually considered the Barefoot Mailman for the GTG the very first year. I believe I chose the Windjammer because of the ocean front courtyard that we could gather in.

The Barefoot Mailman is on 35th Street which isn't far from us on 46th. You could walk it on the beach, OR drive it on the road. It would take about 2 minutes or less by car, considering there's zero traffic at that time of year.

I posted it before, in an earlier thread, but I'll repost. Maybe even open up a new thread just for that....since things get lost in here quickly.

Thanks for the info on both spots!!

Dawn,
If you are worried about the steps at the Windjammer, I would suggest using the interior stairwell and not the exterior steps. My dog froze in fear when I tried to take him up the exterior steps. We tried forcing him, then offering treats up the steps. Nothing worked. When I got on his eye level I noticed these steps were open air, kinda' like climbing a ladder I would suppose in his mind. The manager saw our difficulties and told us to try the interior steps. He had no problem with those. Hope this helps...
