Our little girl (103lbs 15 months) was spayed today. The folks at the pet hospital siad Abbie did very well. Cathy and I are just as exhausted as she is from worring about her. She has a pretty big insicion due the spaying and her umbilical hernia repair. She seems to be doing okay but, she gives a small little whine once in awhile. I think it's tearing our hearts out. they gave her Metacam for the pain and sent some home with us for the next number of days. She didn't want lay down but, she did want food!!! Any ideas on what we can do to make her more comfortable? She certianly liked the small apple pieces we gave her. Hopefully, I can get some pictures posted tommorow when I have some time.

Right now it seems to be the e collar to keep her from getting at the stitches. :uhoh2: I can't say that I blame her, I'd be annoyed by that piece of plastic. Her desire for an apple chunk might be winning but, i'm not making any bets. We are going to try to get some sleep now.:snore:

They do make soft, blow up e-collars which might be more comfortable (if that's possible) for her. I've seen them at Petco/Petsmart. I'm sure like everyone else said, just you being with her, staying close will help too along with the Metacam.

The Bite Not collar is much better than an e-collar. You could make one out of cardboard and duct tape. Just be sure it is very snug against her shoulders and behind her ears. Here is a link to what they look like

If you are watching her you don't have to use the e collar unless she is very determined to get to the stitches.
Other then that, lots of love & spoiling will make things right again.

Thanks Jeannie, we may have to give that a try, it would be much better than than the e-collar she is wearing now.

Here's a couple of pictures.

She loves sleeping in our shower, of course she went in there right before I was going to use it, needless to say she got to stay.

She got a bone from the butcher had to give a little bit of help since paws aren't working well with the collar on.

She seems to be doing much better today.:sunflower: We all got some sleep last night. :groovy: Thanks to everyone for the advice!! Being first time doggie parents we appreciate all the help.

We have used the Bite Not collar too. It is so nice. We found that Lilly figured out how to get to her sutures even if she had the e-collar on. We even doubled it up and she still got to it. Don't want her licking those sutures and pulling them out let alone a bacterial infection from the licking.

Here is to a smooth uneventful recovery for Abbey.
