6 Month Reflections

Orca turned 6 months yesterday, which seems crazy to me. I remember waiting for him and dreaming and seeing all of the pictures posted here and watching Newf videos on youtube and being just so envious.

Having a puppy is a ton of work, it makes me laugh in disbelief when people tell me he can't be *that* time-consuming, or get in the way of weekend trips and international vacations. At the same time, I feel lucky beyond measure. I love the way he follows me around the house, plopping down and napping in whichever room I pause in. I love how, at 70 lbs, he doesn't mind laying in my lap for a cuddle. The way he swims in to "rescue" sticks and deposits them on the shore then looks at me as if to say "what's next?" I love how gently he observes our cat nose-to-nose (when she allows it) and how excited he gets to see my step-daughter and how well he behaves in public or at family events. Having him has just been an absolute joy, and certainly one of the best decisions I've made thus far, either for myself or for my family.

*PS, I'm sorry these are so big, I have no idea how to resize them. Oops!

Nice to hear he is doing well. He is adorable. I spent a little time with his sister Piper this past weekend.

NO WAY!!!! He can't be 6 months already???? If so, I think I've lost the last 6 months of my life!!! Just seems like yesterday, I hope you are taking more pictures than you can count (and post, hint**** hint****)....and oh those days of being so proud he's such a well behaved pup are coming to and end, cause soon he gets that punk teenager stage and that is such a treat ;) Maybe he'll be one of those few that don't really admit the stage is there but just when you think he's all that and a slice of bread.....here it comes. Hopefully it goes just as fast as the past 6 months! Wow, he is all that and a slice of bread! Such a handsome pupper! Hope you'all are taking it in, cause it flies by! As Jess has signed off with me, licks and love XXXXOOOO

Orca is so darned cute! I think you've been bitten by the Newfoundland bug...there's no cure for it, by the way.

I am terrified of this! He's a very good boy but his kindergarten class ended three weeks ago and he hasn't been enrolled in "general" obedience yet, and it's starting to show! All his adult teeth are in that I can see (He swallowed them all before I could get the them) but he's really been targeting my step-daughter, especially in the car. I think we might need to resort to the bitter-apple.

One question, how do we know when he should be out of his crate at night (in my step-daughter's room with the door closed)? He likes to stretch out on his side but his legs are getting just a bit too big for that to be comfortable. He hasn't had an accident in his crate since he started to really grow into it but I'm nervous that without the confinement he'll have accidents again.
