We stayed on the third floor the first year. The exterior steps were a no go for us too. Syd would not budge (have you seen Sydney?). The interior steps were ok with him. There's also a landing in between floors that allows for a little rest.

I'm figuring that the outside steps will not work for sure, I will find some place to practice and I'll post after that! Wish me luck!

I received my confirmation letter and I'm in 106!!

And if anyone has a really hard time with the stairs, an extra Newf if my room will be fine. Maggie would welcome any opportunity to have a playmate spend the night!

Hahahahahaha! I HAVE seen Sydney. It would be like trying to get a horse up the stairs. Not happening. He's such a big sweet guy, though!

But you gotta admit, the view of the sunrise from that 3rd floor over the ocean is awesome! Everybody has to run up there with their cameras! haha

So true, the third floor had spectacular views!
As for stairs, you'd be surprised what your newf will do unexpectedly. For Orion's first year, he would not do stairs. He slept at the bottom of the stairs rather than go up them. My stairs have a wall on one side, and railing on the other, nothing scary about them. We tried luring him with treats, going up a few steps, turning and calling, nothig worked. When I took him to obedience class (on the second floor!), I actually carried him up, sorta dragging/carrying (at that time, he was 80 lbs., I was 120). My "grand entrance" was plopping both of us splat on the floor just inside the door! After the class my teacher wrapped the leash around and under his belly (so it would be more like a harness) and dragged him up and down to show him he could do it. Every week, he'd stay at the bottom until I got a harness and dragged him up.

Then, we went to Nova Scotia.
While there (Marlis is my witness!) we were walking around, the tide was out, so the Hubber, kids, and Marlis went down to the bay to collect clay. I went down with them, but when we got to some steps, I went up to return to the cottage to get dinner started. These stairs were metal, no back, and steep. I was at the top, looking down, Orion was at the bottom. He had to choose between leaving me or leaving the group. At that time, he was Momma's boy, and as he started wimpering at our separation, I told him to go with Daddy. Next thing I know, he's hauling butt up the stairs! Later, we rented a cottage in Cape Breton (same trip), which had two stories. When we went in, the kids ran up the stairs. Next thing I knew, Orion was running up, then down, then up, then down, over and over. When we returned from our trip, he came up to our room to sleep with us. Never had a problem with stairs since.

At the Windjammer, both he and Kee used the outside stairs as well as the inside ones. Orion's people, and the possiblity of separation, were incentive enough to get him to confront his fears. He didn't willing go up a flight of stairs until he was a year old.

I actually had that thought....Myra is a Daddy's girl and velcro Newf, so my hopes is she will just not be able to be away from Vin and will do what she needs to. (maybe) She is also a very big chicken dog, so that could work both ways....but I really need to find a place around here just to give it a shot and see what happens.

We had to cancel our reservation for condo 107 this morning. Sheila T will be taking our place on the first floor.
My division at work has now scheduled us to move into our new building that week and I need to be here to oversee the setup so that we are operational on Monday.
I'm sure once Sheila completes the process of canceling her old reservation in 209 she will let you guys know that it's open and available.
Looks like we won't be seeing you guys after all...

Nothing is available yet, but if anyone cancels, please post on here. I may be going with just Haley - so a studio would be fine, too!

Millie...you're more than welcome. We'd love to have you. Check the first post in this thread for information...and the other threads for the details of the event, so far.

Right now all rooms in the Windjammer are reserved, but if you go to the link below, there are other hotels very close (within 5 minutes) that also allow dogs. All of our time is spent outside in the "courtyard" (on the beach) of the Windjammer...so staying at another place is just fine. You can use any of our rooms for the bathroom, etc. I'd suggest the Barefoot Mailman in the link. There may be others who haven't reserved a room yet too.....so perhaps you'd all like to stay in one hotel together? Post in this thread if you do reserve a room at one of the other hotels, so others who want to go will know where the Newf people are! :)

Here are some who plan on attending, but as far as I know do not have a reservation at the Windjammer. So...they too would perhaps like to group together at one nearby hotel. Like I said...try the Barefoot Mailman first! :)

Megan and Todd (Sunseeker32)
Lisa Lathrop (NewfObsessed)
Mike S (Newfy)

and there are some others who are considering attending: sbarkhouser (Sharon), Lotus, and JenntheBaker (jenn). There could be some additions/cancellations in the future so watch this thread!

Here's the "loose" agenda. It's very very informal and there's nothing really planned except FOOD. :)

Has anyone taken the Cape May Ferry over and if you did, did you have the dogs with you and did they like it?

I think Donna H (drulzelot) did (or went back that way) last year. It's definitely the fastest way to get there from NJ and the areas above that. You end up in Lewes, DE....drive right down Coastal Hwy (Rt 1) into MD...enter OC through the North end, and stay right on that road heading S, until you hit 46th street...make a left, one block to the ocean, parking lot on right. :)

It's only 33 miles from Lewes to Ocean City.
