YMCA swim

We found out that one of the YMCA's near Dayton was hosting a swim with your dog afternoon. Well, being on vacation this week Gary and I decided to take our girls. We really had a good time. Most of the dogs there were small dogs or labs. You should have seen the faces of the staff when we walked in with our troop!! They had it fixed up real nice so the dogs would get in and out of the pool easily. Sam and Panda were the hit of the day. They demonstrated many of their WD training techniques and even tried to save a few people and dogs. This was a great training enviroment because of all the people and dogs. Sam and Panda really had to focus on what they were doing. Many people commented on how graceful and steady they were in the water instead of splashing everywhere. I cannot count how many times I said "They were bred to swim...." Of course, Sara just observed. Everyone got a free Iams bananna and treats.

I thought I should add. I talked to the staff and once a year they drain and power wash the pool. So this will be an annual event on the day they plan to drain the pool.

Sounds like it was a great day Jeannie!

Does Sarah swim at all? I'd love to get Rory into a pool. That way we could test her swimming skills without her venturing onto the sand like she does at the beach!

Isn't it funny how we have to repeat phrases about our Newfs all the time?

Some of mine:

"She's a Newfoundland"
"She's actually quite small for her breed"
"No, they eat about the same amount as a Golden Retriever"
"Yes, a lot of brushing!"

I can't tell you how many times I've parroted these phrases to people! I'm sure you can guess the questions they are answers to, you've been asked them enough yourself!
:D

No Sara does not swim at all. I don't think she had ever seen water due to her hectic life. She was put into rescue at the age of 2, placed and returned to rescue many times. When we got her at the age of 7 and we are her 9th home. She has never liked water so we just respect that. We figured she deserves a life without stress so we don't make her do anything she does not want. She is a wonderful sweet girl. She will wade in it, but not swim.

I had to laugh at your phrases because I repeat them all the time too. :D One more that I may add--"They weight between 120 and 135 lbs"

Great suggestion for the Y in my town. We'll probably be needing a little swim therapy soon.
