Wills and what happens to your Newf

This is a question that has been bugging me for a while.
If my husband and I were to die suddenly what would happen to our dogs? There is no relative or friend that would take them. I do not have a will, yes I know I should have long ago. Would it be OK to put in a will for a specific rescue organization to be contacted? I would also want to put in there something about how much money would go with each dog to provide for care for the rest of their lives to the Rescue and whoever took them. How much would you think? I was thinking maybe $10,000 to cover any surgeries or anything needed. Is there a better way of doing this when you have nobody to take your dogs if you are not there?

My dogs are all covered in our estate planning documents. When I wrote them, I put in a separate section discussing the provisions and care for each of them. Indy is to go to my parents and if they are unable to keep her then she is to go to my basenji rescue group. She has a certain amount of money going with her. Liz & Magic go back to their breeder with a certain amount of money specified, but if she can't be found, won't take them back, or is unable to take them and does not specify where they should go (per the breeding contract), then they are to go to SENC rescue with the money. I have also left this info with my vet along with a credit card and a release allowing my dogs to be boarded and vetted until this all gets worked out and for those people named to make medical decisions. This way they are still being taken care of during probate. Since we have no family here and it would take awhile to get here, I have their feeding and vet info on the inside of my cabinet door so my neighbors know what to do and where to take them.

ours are all in our wills with the proviso that they are to be looked after first and then any money left from the estate will go to various rescue organisations

I have worried myself sick over this....I have various relatives that will take them, and a list magnetised to the side of my refridgerator as to who to contact. In that order....

My will leaves my Newfs first to my Dave with the provision that if he cannot care for them to go to the breeder and then to others named.

All of ours are in our will. We have specified who gets what dog and each person gets $10,000.00 to care for the dog. This money can be used only for the dog's food and care. At death a vet has to state the dog was old or sick and needed to be euthanized or died a natural death, then the rest of the money is released. Being lost, run over or some other negligent act will result in the money not being released. This prevents someone from taking the dog, getting the money then giving/selling the dog or euthanizing.

This being said, I will say I refuse for Chase to be returned to her 'breeder' if you want to call her a breeder. Adam's breeder has not returned an email or phone call in 6 years so I don't think there will be a problem with him not being returned either. All my dogs will be very well cared for.

We don't have an actual will persay, but I wrote down my wishes for my pets and sent it to my best friend who breeds Pyrs. They're to go to her.

Thanks, that's something that didn't even occur to me that somebody would take the money and then get rid of my dogs.

Mine go to Idaho and Idaho's comes to me. ;)
There's a codicle in my will that states if Mark and I perish together, They go to a dear friend. They're provided for financially as well.
As much as my two DD's like my dogs, I would never expect them to take on my crew.
