When to worry about chicken bones?

Tink stole some of our roasted chicken off the counter last night...not a lot but I am pretty sure she swallowed a bone - maybe a wing? She seems fine, but at what point do I need to worry?
Do I just hope it goes through and wait to see if she stops eating or gets runny poop? Thanks. Sheesh these pups cause a lot of worry!

There really isn't much you can do now. She'll likely be fine. Our pups have size on their side. The first issues is the possibility of choking, which obviously didn't happen. Next issue could be obstruction or injury to the gut from a splintered bone. Watch her, make sure there is no blood in her poop, or no other worrying symptoms.

I'd probably take her to the vet if she ate a lot of it, but if it was just a little, she'll probably be fine.

I was told once to feed Maggie a few slices of soft bread right after she ate cooked bones to help cushion it on the way down. I'm not sure if that actually helps or not, but I did it and Maggie was fine.

Welcome to counter surfing newfs!

Thanks Brandie....
I'll keep watching her.
ERggghhhh.....darn sneaky newfies!
I feel the need to say how much I love her though :)

I have walked my friends' Bassets with Snuffles in the Park here and with their nose at the ground and being scent hounds they have chewed up discarded chicken bones before I even knew what happened. All of a sudden I hear crunching. Never had a problem.

As the bones travel through the intestinal track they can puncture the stomach or intestine. Watch for blood in the stool. One thing you can do next time this happens is to feed your dog bread soaked in milk. The milk will soften the stool and the bread will be a soft host to help cushion the bones as they are passed.

The wing is most likely the best bone to have for a newfie as it is so small...just wait and see.

I hope everything turns out okay for your girl. They are so sneaky and so quick for a big dog.
I am currently in wait-and-see mode with Gabriel. I dropped two used tea bags on the floor yesterday and he grabbed them and bolted them down before I could grab them. They still had the strings and the tags attached with the little staple thing in them.
So far so good other than jelly poop from the metumucil he's now getting three times a day. Watching for bits and pieces to pass.

My Merlin ate a whole cooked carcass he got out of the garbage pail outside. How the heck he got the bungee cord off the pail (that we used to keep him out) is beyond my knowledge. Yep, I freaked and kept an eye on him. Everything came out fine.

Tink seems to be doing just fine. We'll continue to monitor her.
So far so good!
