... its amazing what your imagination can come up with.

Our two littlest girls got fixed yesterday. We wanted to wait until they were about 1 and so at 1 year and 1 month, we had them fixed.

Both did extremely well, and we are very pleased with how well the surgeries went. Both were dazed and sleepy, but were fine and both got plenty of rest.

When they first came home, we had no issues with them biting at their stitches. Fancy (the brown tabby) loves to literally bite her nails ... (grab and pull) which i find to the oddest of hobbies, but o well. Lace on the other hand bathes herself once in a while and that is the extent of teeth/tongue to fur.

The girls were sequestered in our room while we kept Kaylee out in the family room so she doesn't play to hard with them. I walked in and found Fance literally RIPPING her stitches out of her belly. :uhoh2: ... I picked her up and examined closely and luckily the stitches were still there but she started to bleed pretty bad ... :darn: ...

Once i picked her up and got her to stop, mom comes to the rescue and we use some of Kaylee's bitter apple biting spray (ment for biting issues, hot spots, etc..) on Fancy's belly to see if she will stop. Didn't work. (Luckily it works on Kaylee) Because the bitter apple has a good amount of alcohol in it, it actually disinfected and help stop the bleeding pretty quickly. Once we figured out that, that wouldn't work, I looked at the clock and it was about 9pm and I figured there was no way to get to petco in time to get a plastic "no bite" collar.

So, i start my research ... after some Cardboard, Tape, and a couple staples ... this is what I came up with

The homemade E-collar is great!! I just went through a nightmare spay with one of my kitties. She was obsessed with her incision and it took 3 months for it to FINALLY heal! Here is what my baby looked like through the ordeal...

The body sock proved to work better for Olive than the e-collar. She could still twist herself and lick at her incision. The body sock is very easy to make, so if you are noticing that Fance is still bothering her stitches try the body sock!

Good luck and I hope both of your babies get well soon!!

awww... glad to see that she finally healed !!!

Body sock ?!?!?! that is a very very interesting idea. Did you just use a tube sock and cute to fit?

So far, in 24 hrs, she hasn't tried to chew or lick, atleast from what we have seen. so it looks to be doing its job. if she starts up again, a body sock will definitely be in order! thanks for the awesome suggestion!

That body sock IS a great suggestion! Thanks! And your kitty is so cute, even with it's lovely e-collar and sock on!

Yup, I used a regular tube sock and cut the toe out. Then I cut slits for the leg holes. If you do need to use a sock you might want to stretch it a bit. My girl was only 8 mos old so a 13 month old may need more room in the sock!

no way ... our fance is the smallest kitty ever. she stopped growing at about 5 months old. She weighed all of just under 5lbs. last month when she was getting her vac's. her sister continued to grow and is now at about 9 lbs.

thanks for the great suggestion!

Trust me, our cats will fit just fine. Fancy's about 5 pounds, maybe less, and Lacey's 7 pounds. Smallest full grown cats I've ever seen! And we feed them well!!!

These home-created answers to problem situations..are SO 'on point'! Kudos for invention, and wise-use of materials used/crafted for the wee ones. As to pulling off of the claws..my indoor cat Willow..removes nails/nail tips..as they become a bother. She has never allowed me to clip..and there are not enough surfaces in the apt. to let natural scratching..abrade the claws a proper amt. ina n HB
