WOW ! I love the whelping box - what do you have at the bottom? just a tarp or is there a solid floor too?
The bottom has puzzle piece rubber matting and a tarp under it. I don't like the puzzle pieces because the pee goes right through it and I have to pull them apart to clean it up. Solid pieces of matting would be better. I LOVE the gate latch on the door. It's so easy to open and close, BUT Jill figured out how to work it and could go in at will. I put a metal hook in it to keep her out when I couldn't watch her. Also, I plan to have another door cut on the left side and 2 more corner seats added. They're great for holding stuff. My walls are high enough that the pups can't get up there. None ever were able to climb out, but did cruise on the pig rail quite a bit. I put a 4X6 x-pen outside the door and plan to put another outside the new door. Divide and conquer!:D

You might also try Personal Touch Health Care Apparel. I get the 34x35 reusable underpads ($12.00 each - currently on sale for $10.00 each) and sew them together. They usually offer buy 5, get 1 free, or some other discount. I will have to look at Metro Medical as well.

Joan - what paint do you use thats ok for the pups incase they lick / gnaw at it ? also - is it a solid floor ?
My husband used a non toxic paint of some kind. The puppies don't seem to chew on it. By the time, they really start to do that I have moved out of the box and into a pen usually at about 4-5 weeks old.

The bottom is 2 pieces of wood, each 3 x 4 with side attach and are 18 inches high. My husband the box so I can put it together as 6 x 4 for newf puppies 3 x 4 for schipperke puppies. I put a tarp under it.

I put newspaper down, then on top of that, I use the reusable hospital pads on top of that.

what is the size?
The one in the pictures is about 75" x 70"

When we build ours, we will include separate "rooms" for puppies (eating/play area and potty area). Below is what our idea/plans will look like, but always subject to change. Yes, will need a bigger house! LOL

I downed my box at 3-4 weeks and moved to xpen enclosure with couple of crates in it. Box was not up really long enough to do the compartments. I downed part of my furniture while box and puppies in house. Got moved out to storage. Moved back in afterwards. Xpen I positioned so I could open it up and block puppies off to 1 room for playtimes and exploring. Once started going outside had positioned so easy to scoot all out to go potty and playtime. Worked out fine.

I follow a schedule in Puppy Headstart Program, book here: https://secure.dv1.net/clicker/ . First time used this and adapted some for newfs. Worked out well and plan to use again. Evaluation time puppies essentially were pretty even across in confidence, outgoing and from what seeing as they've aged is staying with them.

Thanks...I will check them out. That is a great price, although I would need to get my Dear Mother to sew them, as a seamstress I definitely am not (smile)
