Social position, big kahuna at work, being the whitest person in the group (read that DAR etc.)and yet..I am willing to bet the film winners last night..will be discussed..and an off-shoot will be 'race relations'. Oh Bless our many big over-arching concerns n hearts..with portions of understanding..the world community. We are such..wellmeaning..sorts.. The World family..or..the non-issue..of skin color, or sexual pref. We can solve the problems..by..stopping the dialogue. Yup..do not utter another good for/bad for/or create another committee, or send another donation to the 'correct the poor unfortunate'..who loves his/her..same sex partner. Stop the sending of missionarys to other countrys, other communitys and door to door solicitations for your assorted souls..to join this/that specific denomination. Harvey Milk? Black/Brown/Yellow/Red/White? Close the mouth..and walk to a piece of ground..and know..that..all life that ever lived..on this planet..and has passed on..is..in this rich earth. All life which is ON..this planet..WILL..pass on through. Stop..the madness of superiority over..any others..and lift up a whisper..Family. No UN, no more dialogue..just look into your heart/mind..and find if there is an ugly vine..of any size..growing..hidden by your titles, church platitudes, or consrvative bias..and..wrestle with yourself. You can do that so quietly..no screaming, no posturing for a committe, or a board meeting. Wrestle that sucker out..and put the fragments of YOUR uglyness..into a fire..and burn it. We have never needed the concept of ...Family..more. Stop the talk..simply..learn to ..BE.... ina n HB n Kesa

It's already started....our paper this morning had to comment (on the front page no less) that Penelope Cruz was the first Spanish woman to win an acting Oscar. Like being Spanish had something to do with it.......

Agreed but it started long before the Oscars actually. How about "first black president" and why not just "President Elect?"
I don't like labels any more than the next person but try as we might they will never go away. Boring doesn't sell.

If anyone has a magic wand, or the proverbial nose to wiggle....that is the only thing I can think of that would do it.....for alot of years yet...we are a society obsessed with political correctness...and thus social divisions...

"JUST outed .." Heckfire..I was born to an eager, interested, curious mindset. Fear of newness..never held me back..I simply watched, figured..as best I could..if ya do that..then what happens. I am curious..always have been..love education..learn from the news around the world..and have appreciated the family/friendship circle..becouse the 99 percent of them..are also..always looking for ways to upgrade the life conditions. Color me..a very, very..educable sort. Yup..never hated that view of 'inclusive' personality..but perhaps..that wasn't quite..the term ya had..in mind..? ;) ina n HB n Kesa

No No No Ina...It was only meant to point out that while you touted fairness, equality and doing away with labels, you labeled yourself by only commenting that conservative bias existed. I full expected to see "conservative/liberal bias. Now THAT would have been fair since BOTH exist. Nevermind that we could really do without either or. The point was that your statement was biased in and of itself.:bear: That's all. I should have inserted a smiley face there because I was merely picking on ya!

Bless their hearts..the DAR of today..are not very apt to be..the ones who gave grief to Marion Anderson..and that's the era I think of..for using the term. Granted..not having any one I talk with locally who is a member..I have no clue what the overlay of stats for either the group..or individuals..is like 2009, so my bad..at not clarifying the time frame. On the term of 'liberal bias'...curiosity..is what got us out of the caves. Education..is what moves each society and modernising culture..forward. I took a break..to dig in 3 diff. dictionarys.. to reaquaint myself with the word liberal..just to see if I saw it..in an unusual way...and I simply hunger..to understand more than I did. Where many are more comfortable with most every idea IN a box..like a dozen eggs, all quiet and minding their ps and qs..while locked-up, others of us..are ..out there..enjoying the view, listening to the commentary..hopefull of another neat, new idea..that erases hurts, enhances happy outlooks and nurtures. So I guess..to say a single pairing of 'conservative-liberal' bias..sounds like bit of rope..laying there. It needs people to tug it..yank..back and forth, which does expend energy. I guess I am more interested in wandering past..and finding..newness. ina n HB n Kesa

Unfortunately, it's my opinion that those of the very far right, or those of the very far left don't see their own bias, only the bias of those that don't agree with their positions.

I was just thinking today how I really don't like the far right's or the far left's views on things. They're fanatical. On both sides. As with everything, moderation is the key.

Nothing wrong in searching for and hoping to find newness Ina. I applaud that actually. I can't say my glasses are quite as rose colored as I am more of a realist and the fact of the matter is that the world will not change. Despite the efforts of so many over the years it remains the same. If anything it seems to have evolved into a more ugly pattern than good.
I don't hide myself away from change. I readily accept it so long as it doesn't infringe upon my right to be who I am. Those that seek a better view of the world often find themselves disappointed when they come full circle.
I hope your search proves different.

I have to agree with Missy here Ina..If it was that easy , all the flower children in Golden Gate Park in the late 60's would have made an impact..."Peace/Love". they wound up being a tourist attraction and suddenly 'dispursed'. I was there at the time.
I come from a family of educators..My mother was a PHD in foreign language, and our house was always full of cosmopolitan types. Many other relatives were educators also.. I grew up on college campus'...I have always been a searcher...maybe in a little different direction...searching for who we really are....these little specks that we be on this mud ball....humanity is going to play out as the people act the play. Some human nature has been the same since the beginning..Those who do not have guns become the slaves of those who do...eventually.. I Pray for our country....because I love it...as it was when I was younger...when things were more well defined. It has become a blur of people demanding rights and acknowledgement, and finally deserving of being taken care of. The law has allowed society to become litigeous.....get it free...! has become the by word.....(moan)The problem is..pretty soon you run out of people who work...and generate the GNP. I never was employed by a poor person..

SHUCKYDARN?? Ina you re too much..

I too grew up during that time Julie. It was a time when our generation really thought that by gathering the masses we could change something. Sitting for peace (read: most were too stoned to stand) was a noble thing at the time. Defiance at it highest in the eyes of the more disciplined and stifled child. In actuality we changed nothing.
I never lost my my desire for a better world. I just more readily accepted the fact that it is what it is and despite the best efforts of many, it remained constant and flawed.
I do think its time to move past the Billy Jack and Bless the Beasts and the Children mindset. The world will never be all rosey and froo froo. One can only turn the other cheek but so much.
