Web site question

Hi all,

I'm not going back to work full time now that the baby is here, but I am going to try to do some freelance work from home. I'd like to build a basic web site on which I will post my resume and some portfolio materials etc...

I don't need it to be ultra fancy, but I do want it to look professional as opposed to a personal home page.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what software, host, etc... I should use???

I truly am completely in the dark with this entire process, so your suggestions are appreciated. Also, do I have to buy a domain name etc...???

If you have Microsoft Office, you can use Front Page. It's not too bad for basic web pages. You can do a "Google" search for "Free HTML Editors" and get quite a large list of software that you can use. If you don't know anything about HTML, there are a lot of WYSIWYG (What You See I What You Get) editors out there. They allow you to "see" what the page looks like right away without having to publish it first. You can get a registered domain name at GoDaddy.com

Homestead is good...but it isn't free. It's easy to use and you can make a pro site, or a home site, or both.

You don't have to buy a domain name with Homestead unless you want one. You can link to your site directly through them.

We use Homestead. Not free, like Donna pointed out, but it is easy to use. You also have allot of options to choose from. I love it!

Yahoo Site Builder is a WISIWIG, it's free, and yahoo will take care of registering your domain name and will be your web host as well. Very easy to use template and, well, I like it since it's as easy to use as printshop. That might be worth checking out as well.

Thanks so much for your feedback. Since I am completely in the dark when it comes to this subject, I very much appreciate you all taking the time to respond. I'll check into your suggestions and see what I think will work best for my purposes.

Thanks again! mj
