Water Training Seminar with the Salmelins (Capri)

We had an awesome day yesterday attending Bettina (Capri) and Annina Salmelin’s water training seminar at Nolte Park near Seattle.

We split into groups and spent most of the day doing water exercises. The trainers did a great job working with each of us adapting the drills to our dogs experience, ages and levels. I have been to water tests, read books and practiced on our own in the past, but nothing compares to having great hands on individual training. I was amazed to see how well and naturally Kona responded to the training, I could tell she was having fun and looking forward to her next turn. A tribute to their expertise in working with the dogs and handlers.

I learned so much and many tips about working with Kona in the water.... practice will keep us busy all summer now!

The Salmelin’s first stop was in Washington and are continuing to Kansas, Colorado and Texas. A great opportunity if you are into water training and can get to a seminar!

Isn't their training fantastic? I am so glad others are finally experiencing it!

We spent a week together on Orcas Island in Washington training and having fun. Bettina & Annina took 1000s of amazing photos and will post some when they have time and a fast stable internet connection.

Here's a picture Annina took of Orka saving Bettina (and me) on his very first try with a gloved hand, woot woot! He is fussy and stubborn about water training and throws fits and tantrums when he's not sure of something new so this was a testament to how persistent and effective yet gentle the Salmelin sisters are. They analyzed his training roadblocks which will be sweetly demolished and we're making good progress now!

Orka is one of Bettina's Watercubs (K. Nostokurki), mother Vera, grandmother Capri, aunt Al, and my beloved service Newf.

REALLY happy that you enjoyed the trainings, it's different, fast-pace, very positive and different to normal trainings. Glad you enjoyed! Kona was Great!

These are such great pics! I am taking Scarlett to her first water training event in July and I am so excited. I have never been to one of these events and looking at your pictures makes me even more excited!
