Warning/reminder for campers

This weekend a little boy died at a campground a little over a mile from my house from carbon monoxide poisoning. They did not have a carbon monoxide detector in their camper.

There were a few contributing factors to this...a leaky hose on their heater, compounded by the camper being backed into an area that didn't allow much clearance, so the gas had virtually nowhere to go but UP. There were 3 other people in the camper who were all treated for CM poisoning, and are ok now. The little boy and his father both had asthma, and the father was also pretty bad off. So, they believe the asthma was also a contributor in this. Luckily the heater ran out of gas sometime during the night, or this could have been a far worse tragedy.

So, for those of you who camp, or know someone who camps, please remember to check where your camper is being parked, and that you have a carbon monoxide detector in the camper.

How sad for everyone who cared about that child.

My father lost a dear friend this same way many years ago....it can happen easily. Thanks for the safety reminder Kelly, as camping season begins.

Those situations..happen all too often. Good to post reminders, and esp. helpful to those who may be new to camping..and have not yet really investigated..what can go wrong. ina n HB

Yep... we have a CM detector in our camper.
You can never be too careful!

That is sooo sad when preventable tragedies happen!
