Wow 10 or more pups. I could not imagine taking on the responsiblity of finding good homes for them and being responsible for them for their life--as any good breeder will do!!

I don't think I will guess. Just keep up posted.

10 pups.......10 pups.....I still cannot believe it. Better get some sleep now because you won't be getting any for quite some time.

You would not believe how hard it is when one comes back, the guilt on my part, i just got starrs sister back shmatty, she is beautiful, but yes, i am responsible, and learning as i go along, this doc and his wife were playing the part right to the tee, there were suttle things that thinking back i made the wrong decision, but she is young enough she will adjust, so yes, i got two pups back from the dancer morgan breeding, i am getting them used to the things they should be, and starr leaves us on sunday for her new home, and at present i want shmatty to definatly be in a show home, am working on that, plus all the preparations, have a lot of these pups sold so there will be no problem there.
i worry when they leave, i am in contact with owners always, any questions they have i am here to answer them and there are a lot believe me!
thanx jeanie.

i hope and pray they all make it safe and sound.
;)
it is a lot of work, grey hairs, and wow did penny give them to me, but the things that were happening to her, were from her colon being pressured so that being a natural thing, i am not so worried about her now.
she is getting picky with food but that should get easier, i will be able to feel the pups in about 5 days, what i felt before washer colon believe it or not! LOL
yup sleepless nights equals lots of diet coke!

Wow - 10 or more - Bless your heart. I'm so glad to hear that her troubles were only "natural" troubles though. You must be so excited.

You mentioned some clues that you overlooked in someone that you sold a pup to who eventually came back to you - what would be the kinds of things you stayed tuned into that would make you wonder about someone? I have been doing soooo much reading on breeding and the do's and don'ts from a health standpoint, but there's really no insight on the people side of things. I imagine you worry so much about your babies after they are gone. Just wondering what work spark your thoughts about what would be a good or not good home. Thanks.

that's great that there are 10 pups (better you than me- been there, done that)
I'm surprised tho that your vet actually xrayed your bitch so soon. Xrays are not normally recommended until after day 50. The pups are still developing and xrays aren't exactly healthy for them.

hi
ROM
actually she is on day 47 there is no harm in that, they recomend between days 45 and 50 so no biggie, and her well being is most important, i figured that xray would show us why she is having loose stool, well it did and i can relax, i also have done this with the last two litters everyone has their own opinion on what is right and what is wrong, the xray was taken on a lower setting also wich i had expressed concern about, i trust this gal explicitly she knows what she is doing.

thanx for the concern but i do not feel it was a wrong decision.
as far as prospective buyers.
well it is a lot of gutt instinct plus how your own dogs react to the people, this couple was liked by my newfs, she even sat on the couch with penny in her lap.
that is different than dealing with them at home.
the situation involved a lot of things of wich the hubby assured me there would be plenty of supportive help, but .....
there was not, and she is home, i am pleased and very very happy to have her.]
if you plan on breeding make absolutly sure you have a mentor who knows what they are doing, you also should study type and movement, structure and the different lines out there that have different things to deal with.
it is a lot of research and planning, and it also can be a lot of heartbreak, you need to be tough as nails.

Thanx karen, and about tough as nails, i should have explained, that is for when you may have to make the awful decision to put a newborn to sleep due to defects or the one that is born dead that you try and try to revive.

also in all my books it says xrays are ok between days 45 and 50 just that some believe it bad and some not at all.
all my pups are from xrayed moms during this period of pregnancy and none of them have suffered from it.

you can do whatever-
The books I've got say not before 50 days and if it must be done then ideally between 55 & 58.
My vet is adamant about not prior to 50 days from date of first breeding.

Whatever ROM
the post you wrote first on this was in a tone such as.....well i dont know that is why i hate the internet, Xray is as contraversial as how to raise your kid. everyone has an opinion and we all make educated decisions based on the professional people who guide us.
sorry this turned out to be arguementative, but....
i wont be accused of wrong doing when this is what a professional recomended i do.
i do not see anything wrong with what i did and nothing bad has happened to any of the dogs rayed during this stage, in our neck of the woods this is standard proceedure.

Thanks for all the advise ladies. When my time comes for babies it is so nice to know I'll have a lot of friends. My breeder is a wonderful woman. Her and her husband have been breeding Newfs for 17 years and are very honest, helpful and kind. I feel lucky all the way around !!

wow Sarnewfie, that is great. You sure are going to have your hands full. Wish I lived closer, I would love to lend a hand. I am not getting into the xray controversy. But the way they do the xrays today, the radiation they use is much less than years ago when they just blasted. Now they take measurements and stuff. Your vet wouldn't have done it if he didn't think it was safe. Again congratulations!! That is exciting.

It wasn't meant to be written in a "tone."
I was just surprised that your vet did the xrays so early- Pups are still not 100% fully developed at that point and everything I had read (and was told) said not to do it before 50 days. (and I made a goof- it was 50 days after last breeding not first breeding) I'm sorry you read it that way.

Woo Hoo!!!!!! Lots of puppies! Hope all goes well with all.
I'm guessing October 19....6 girls and 5 boys. Yep...I'm guessing there's one hiding in there. ;)

Great News! We shopped breeders for quite a while and got on a few waiting lists only to find out that only 2 or 3 pups were born and we were number 4. What a great sized litter this is and kudos to mama who is carrying and will care for all these precious babies.

My guesses..... October 20th with 7 boys and 3 girls.

Good Luck to you all!

Actually ROM we counted this way becouse we are pretty positive wich day she took on, and that is why we did what we did.
we only did the 3 rd breeding just in case.
but we are safe, all my books tell me so, it is done this way here all the time without any ill effects.
thanks for the concern and for giving us another view point.

WOW !! I forgot to put in my guess ! I'm going with the 20th and I, too, am gonna say there's one little bugger hiding up there somewhere - so I'm going with 8 boys and 3 girls. Keep us posted and we're keeping everyone close to our heart.

I have to ask...what color(s) are you expecting? I saw on your site lots of Landseers. What is your guess as to what colors you'll get? I can hardly wait til the puppies are born!!
