UPDATE: Kali's Surgery caused by attack at dog park.

Update - Fri - 4-22:
Kali was uneasy last night. She was huffing hard, so i turned the a/c on and it calmed the huffing. She was uncomfortable, moving from one spot to another. Then she jumped on the couch! (My husband forgot to put the pillows on the couch to block off). Her highness has been eye-balling her throne since this happened and doesn't know what it is off-limits. Well, she was on there for about 2 minutes and slowly got down. Now she knows WHY it's off limits....it's too soft!

It is hard enough for Kali to stand, let alone squat to conduct business. Sometimes there is an unavoidable accident. I've been laying towels downstairs for when i happens again, but they are not suited for this task. 34x36 incontenance bed pads are. I used to have tons of them when my grandma was sick, but then gave them to the local shelter once she passed. I was wondering if anyone had any that I could borrow. I've looked on line and even the used ones are $10 each OR if you have any suggestions for something else, that would be great too.

Thank you all for the prayers and love. Some have made contributions to the vet for Kali's surgery and for THAT I am deeply indebted and will be forever grateful. Last night I was reading some of your sentiments to my husband and Kali layed at my feet listening and watching me as I read them. (And now I find my eyes filling with tears again and must stop fo now.) I love you all. Newf.net friends are second only to my fur-babies. Thanks for getting me through this.

I got them on Ebay for 6.00 each..brand new. But if you are expecting the accident...because of her condition, why not go get the diaper things for kids that bed wet? I have them for when I take my ectopic girl in the car with me. I just cut a hole for her tail and she's good to go, and she's a fairly big girl..they come in a size for 12 year olds or something like that.

You can also easily make a sling to help her out of a cloth grocery bag...slit the sides and you can run it under her and have handles to help her around. Use a strong one!

How about the puppy training pads they sell them pretty much everywhere including Walmart. :hugs: to you both.

Unfortunately the puppy training pads, and other similar bed pads have a plastic bottom. When you step on them, they slide. Since Kali is "hopping" she most assuridly will slide on that.

But thank you for your suggestion.

PM me your address....I'll get some from the nursing home where I work. They usually have a pile that are getting threadbare, still functional but not as neat and fluffy as new. I'm working today and tomorrow. I can get them into the mail Monday morning.

Hugs to Kali. Lu had CCL surgery in October, just keep saying...."in a few weeks this will all be behind us"...it keeps you sane in the first 2 weeks of intensive care.

After her surgery, you'll start seeing improvements daily. Bojie is 6wks post TPLO and has amazed me every day. You really have to confine these guys to ensure they don't injure themselves more.- I thought that would be the hardest part, but he actually loved the xxl great dane sized crate that I put in the living room for him, so much so that I don't think I will take it down now. It really helped having it to prevent him from going up and down stairs, or up on the couch. We also went to home depot and placed those large foam interlocking squares all over the hard wood floors. Sure, our house now looks like we run a day care- but it has made a HUGE difference. To help her ambulate, start using a towel folded long ways as a sling now, you can use that after her surgery too. It's a great time for her recovery- swimming season is beginning, and that will help strengthen up her legs better than anything as soon as the vet gives her the green light to start. This will all be a distant memory soon! Promise!

Thank you so much. That really helped. I didn't kno that Home Depot even had such a thing as the foam squares. That sounds perfect. I have a medical sling that I ordered because the towel/sheet is too cumbersome. I should have everything I need by Tuesday, when they expect she will be able to be home from the vet. I look a fright. This was such a blow to my heart. Good thing is people like you that re-assure me all will be fine in time.

Sam's Club also has the foam interlocking squares cheaper than the Depot..If you know someone who is a member they can pick some up for you.
I bought a bunch when Sophie was recovering...somewhere around 22 dollars for 8 2 X 2 foot pieces.

The very worst part, is waiting for the surgery to happen, watching them gimping around for the few days leading up to it, and then when they leave you to go into surgery, and waiting for the news as soon as the surgery is over. After that, I promise, everything will start to look up. I know the circumstances in which the accident happened were horrendous, and I'm angry for you and poor Kali- but now just focus on staying positive for Kali. It will be her very best medicine. She picks up on your emotions, so focus on a positive outcome, and a great recovery.

Bojie also prefers the cold floor, but I got that crate, put a large foam mattress (the cheapy petsmart one) in it with a folded up blanket over it and he loves his crate. I also hung a stainless steel bucket from the inside so that he wouldn't have to walk anywhere for water. Rob and I took turns sleeping next to him so he doesn't have to do stairs (he's always been a Momma's boy and doesn't like sleeping alone) - we also blocked the stairs off just in case he gets an urge to act like Rocky Balboa and start climbing them. Also- get two ice packs ready in the freezer or two large bags of frozen peas to ice her after she comes home. And, some peanut butter (or whatever you need to use to give bitter tasting pills with). You'll get directions from your surgeon for recovery and confinements for home- but just wanted to share the stuff we did so you can plan ahead. I'm a planner, and the last thing I wanted to do was have to run and do errands after I got him home from the hospital.

I promise, you're going through the hardest parts of the whole ordeal right now. Watching her uncomfortable, and dealing with the anxiety of waiting for surgery is the worst. The first week post op was difficult, but nothing compared to the fear I had leading up to the surgery. We're all here with you pulling for her! Everyone here was a life saver to me too, no one else really gets the love we have for our Newfs. Deep breaths. :hugs:

But thank you for your suggestion.
Use duct tape to secure them to a rubber-backed rug on the carpet. The rug can catch any run-off when this is over and can be easily washed.

Hugs to Kali.

This information is all awesome. I'm so sorry someone else had to go thru the same thing. This is awful. I've moved the spare bed downstairs so I can stop sleeping on the couch. I wish you were all going to be wit me at the vet Monday morning. I need a group hug.

She hasn't pooped since last tuesday. She has been going pee pee which is a good thing, and quite honestly, I'm not feeding her what she used to eat because she's really NOT that hungry, but she is eating. When she goes out to take care of business, she must lay down, and usually it's on the boo boo side. I don't know wha the hell I'm going to do if she goes to lay on the boo boo side. I don't want it to get infected or dirty. What did you do with Bojie?
