This evening we were getting ready to go to the mall. My husband changed out of his work clothes and put on a pair of shorts. Malia was convinced she was going for a walk. When we told her that her walk would have to wait until we got home, she turned around, rather swiftly I might add and trotted downstairs into the laundry room (I think she might of even been stomping her feet). She looked so dissapointed. She went right into the bathtub down there and flopped herself down and gave a sigh even the neighbors could probably hear! I think if there was a door, she'd of slammed it behind her! lol! My husband went downstairs to try and explain to her that they would go for a walk when we got back and she wouldn't even look at him. Needless to say when we got back from the mall, all was forgiven. She held my husband to his word and started doing her "let's go for a walk dance!"

Now that PROVES my theory that our Newfs know what we are talking about
Sam will do the same thing. Those sighs........well Sam can use them to the max. Along with those eyes.....sometimes she and Sara really tear my heart out.

We have tried everything to get around the speech understanding issue. Over the years we have tried spelling the words, using new words to catch him off guard, and even sign language, ASL, mind you. To no avail.... He ALWAYS understands what you are saying.

Now he even catches on when you put on your coat to go outside, and starts the ride dance when you grab your keys. It's REALLy tough when you are just going out to put somethin gin the car... They think they are going for a ride and the dance starts.

Aren't Newfs GREAT!!

I know just what you all mean. Tess watches to see what I put on every morning as to whether I'm going to the Beach (bathing suit - she even knows what drawer it's in - just have to open it), the gym, or to work. She doesn't even bother to get up for the last two but spins circles for my suit. I feel she has studied every move I make for a year and probably knows my routine better than I.

Can't wait to find her a playmate. Search is not going great as some breeders I've called have not returned phone calls. Guess I should automatically cross them off my list.

A good evening to all!

I e-mailed Susan, but figured I'd put my answer on the list, too. Gang, please don't just write off a breeder who doesn't call you back. To be honest, I'd go broke if I returned all the toll and long distances calls I get about Newfs. Try calling back in the evening, when they're more likely to be home. I know I'm glad to talk Newfs with anyone, give as much info as possible and refer them to a breeder I'd trust, but I just have to do it on their nickel. Pinching pennies is a fact of life for most of us. Have to feed those puppers!!!
